Westin St. Francis

Is this property a good choice? I hear its location is superb, but overall the ratings on this site aren%26#39;t exactly as high I would have expected for a Westin. To be honest, I%26#39;m currently booked at the San Francisco Marriott. We are booked in a city view, corner king room. The cost is a good $150 less a night for this room compared to the St. Francis. I do prefer more modern hotel rooms, so I would opt to stay in the newer, more expensive tower rooms if we did stay the St. Francis. I guess my question is whether or not the St. Francis is worth the extra expense?

Westin St. Francis

The St. Francis has an absolutely fantastic location. You honestly can%26#39;t get better. That said, I do think the St. Francis is in need of an update in their historic tower rooms, which I have heard they are apparently working on doing. Based upon your preferences, if you do choose the St. Francis, definitely go with the tower rooms.I honestly wouldn%26#39;t chance the other. There are some candid traveler photos on this site that you may want to look at if you haven%26#39;t already just so you know what you%26#39;re getting. The common areas are absolutely beautiful and grand.

I think the location is great... now is it really worth the extra expense? That is a tough one and depends largely on you. I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be unhappy at the Marriott but you may like a more central location. Honestly, I%26#39;d just think of whether the location is the most important thing to you and let that be the deciding factor. The Westin is a nice hotel for sure but then again, you could also be spending that $150/night on some amazing restaurants or something and say at a perfectly acceptable hotel. Just depends on your priorities... and this is coming from the hotel snob of the board. ;)

Westin St. Francis

If you prefer modern, and you want to put that $150 a night toward other things (say, a fabulous dinner one night, or two), the Marriott is not exactly un-central. It%26#39;s not right on Union Square, but my personal opinion is that you don%26#39;t need to be. It%26#39;s only a few blocks off of Unions Square. I%26#39;d rather be comfortable and spend the money on other things that will contribute to my enjoyment of my visit.

Saw Marriott while visiting SanFran last October. Not really that far from Union Square. If this is your first visit to the city and will probably take years before you could visit again, trying the St.Francis won%26#39;t hurt. Especially if you have the extra dough. I%26#39;m not sure if there is still a Michael Mina restaurant at St.Francis. I heard it%26#39;s a good restaurant?

Like the post before me, if I were given the choice, I%26#39;d spend it on something else. Maybe buy more books at Borders, a dinner at a nice restaurant, or maybe add it to purchase a new bag at Goyard in St.Francis? LOL
