Hi all,
I need some help. I won this room on priceline for $98 a night in April. We will not have a car and will be flying in at SAN. Does anyone know how far and costly a cab ride will be? Is there any public transportation from the airport...or any way we can get to Legoland using public transportation?
We also are looking into the zoo. Is it near this hotel? I saw on the website it said you can walk there????? that doesn%26#39;t seem right.
anyway, pleaselet me know your thoughts
San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter...what is close?
It%26#39;s a great place to stay. My husband and I were there over Super Bowl weekend.WHO is coming with you? Since you mentioned Legoland ,I would assume you are bringing a young child. You know that Priceline does NOT guarantee 2 beds in a room.
Anyway we checke din early ,at about 1PM and asked for a high floor and got it so we were happy.
The zoo is very close, maybe 1mile to BalboaPark and then further to the zoo so a taxi would be inexpensive and there is a bus too.
The airport is only about 3-4miles from the hotel.
Taxis cost approx.$3 per mile with $3+to start so about $18-$20 with tip. There is a bus from the airport to downtown and there are shared vans too.
Legoland is at least 45min north and you can take a train BUT only go if your child is 10 or younger.
You can also walk along the harbor, take a harbor cruise and visit ships that are docked nearby.
You got a great deal!
San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter...what is close?
The Marriott Gaslamp is a great hotel and near lots of public transit, including the trolley. You could walk to the zoo, but it would be a 30-45 minute walk I would guess. It would be easier to take a bus or taxi.
Regarding transportation from the airport to your hotel... There%26#39;s only one bus that goes through the airport so that%26#39;s the one you want. Don%26#39;t worry about the direction because the airport is the last stop it makes and then it goes back toward downtown. It%26#39;s $2.25 / person. They have luggage racks because it%26#39;s a special airport city bus. When you get on the bus tell the bus driver to let you know when you%26#39;re at the trolley station. Then, walk across the street and get on the trolley that goes to San Ysidro/Tijuana. Get off at 5th avenue (just two stops, I think) and walk to block and a half to your hotel. You%26#39;ll be on the trolley for no more than 3 minutes. Your bus fare is good for the trolley. You don%26#39;t have to pay again when you get on the trolley. I suppose you COULD walk to the Zoo but that%26#39;s a long walk. And it%26#39;s uphill. Go to http://sdcommute.com/ and plan your public transporation usage in advance. You can take a bus from where you are up 6th avenue to the zoo. Again, it%26#39;s not going to be a long ride. have fun!
Thank you so much. I researched it a little more on my end, but thanks so much for the advice on the bus getting to the hotel. We might just end up getting a cab, with four of us...our luggage and stroller might fill up the bus a little too much, but we%26#39;ll look into it when we arrive at the airport.
My husband and I are taking different flights in with the kids. Do any of you know any landmarks we can meet at at the airport? He%26#39;s coming in on Northwest, and we%26#39;re coming in on Midwest. Is the baggage area one big area? I%26#39;m not sure if we will be checking in bags.
We would love to get up to Legoland, but the bus would take 1.5 hours from the hotel and a taxi would be pretty expensive., renting a car just isn%26#39;t worth it for one excursion!..the zoo will probably be our big stop (this is a three day layover to Hawaii).
About priceline...I%26#39;ve had really good luck getting double beds, but I imagine the one time I don%26#39;t it won%26#39;t be pretty! I think traveling midweek your pretty safe..not a lot of hotels are over booked. If nothihng else, they can give you extra bedding to plop on the floor...the kids that is...
Thanks again!
Northwest and Midwest Express are both in Terminal two. The airport isn%26#39;t big at all. I think people assume it%26#39;s going to be huge. It%26#39;s just two terminals and they%26#39;re right next to each other. There%26#39;s one large baggage claim area for terminal two. You%26#39;d probably easily run into each other but a good landmark would be the escalator at the north end of the terminal. Or, the large staircase that comes down in the middle of the baggage terminal where arriving passengers come through. There%26#39;s also an information booth right there at the bottom of the stairs.
