I am in need of some recommendations, please. We will be travelling from SF to LA via Route ONE from Thursday mid-day/early afternoon and have to arrive in LA by Friday evening. Please recommend the ';have to see'; and ';can%26#39;t miss'; places worth stopping at, so that we still arrive at our destination no later than Friday evening (can be late eve.)
Thank you fellow travellers.

What are you looking for? Sports venue? Water sports? History? Geology? Shopping? Amusement parks? ';Have to see'; and ';Can%26#39;t miss'; are way too subjective. Chuck...

Spend the night in Monterey/Pacific Grove/Carmel, after dining at Monterey%26#39;s Fish House, in order to ensure daylight for your trip through Big Sur. It%26#39;s easy to get to Los Angeles before 22:00 providing you hit The Road before 10:00.
Here are your DRIVING DIRECTIONS geocities.com/touringsfo/鈥riveDir.html And here is an augmenting report: geocities.com/iconoc/Articles/Road2N07.html
Another respondent mentioned the Monterrey/Carmel area. After that, you go through Big Sur and you reach San Simeon where you can visit the Hearst Castle. (You can order tickets online, and it is a ';have to see'; if you like architecture and art.) Just south of there is Cambria (but a bit off of the 1 if I remember right), one of my favorite towns with wine shops, galleries and good restaurants. From there you can go further south to Morro Bay and Pismo Beach (though I don%26#39;t necessarily recommend these as stops for more than an hour each). Further south, you get to Santa Barbara with its historic mission and downtown area. Then you pass through Malibu on the way into Santa Monica and Los Angeles.
