If I am looking for comfortable, yet inexpensive lodgings for a trip. Be spending a week form March 18-25.
Are the Hotel Circle motels your basic chain motel? Any negatives of staying there?
Thanks
Hotel Circle
Comfortable, clean ,fresh up-to-date,quality, and inexpensive?
I generally think of Fairfield Inn by Marriott,Hampton Inn, La Quinta Inn ect.
Mission Valley can turn into a last minute ';let%26#39;s go to San Diego and Party'; on weekends for the ';party crowd'; from the L.A./Oarnge county areas. But then again so can half of the hotel/motels in San Diego on weekends.
But, it is a good central location that is generally safe, clean, with plenty of places to eat/shop/see movies ect.
I would suggest renting a car wherever you stay except for maybe downtown, becuase alot of the ';pionts of interest'; are spread out around the Greater San Diego area.
Hotel Circle
Well, this is just my opinion, but some of the places on the south side that are inexpensive would strike a negative cord for me. Actually, it is the opinions of some of the reviewers too. And, yes, with those you are looking at basic chain motels.
In general, the negative to Hotel Circle is that it is not scenic and rooms may have a view of the freeway and freeway noise. Having stayed on the north side, I think the south side is even less scenic because where I stay I can view the green hills and do not view the freeway with the right location in the hotel.
Personally, I can%26#39;t imagine staying on the south side! But a friend of mine goes to Comic-Con each year and stays on the south side in a motel and is pretty happy. I have forgotten which one it is, though. He knows I stay at the Crowne Plaza (formerly the Hanalei Hotel) when I do a summer weekend and has told me he kind of wishes he could do that. If you want something that is not just a chain motel, then I recommend it. The rate may be as low as $135 depending on when you go.
What you settle on could depend on your idea of comfortable and inexpensive. If you are fine with a basic chain motel because you need something less expensive than a hotel, perhaps you can check the reviews for the one that sounds the best and most comfortable for you on the south side.
You might also consider looking at the places in Old Town, though. You might find something better there for a good rate.
Red/Red,
your comments about hotel circle triggered the nostalgia bottons. hotel circle used to be the very heart of the action in san diego. the freeway was new, the new motels put up really big signs touting their nightly entertainment, the new restaurants competed with their all- you- can- eat breakfasts. there used to be a stable at the far west end where you could rent horses and ride down the river to mission bay or the beach. to the east, there were still 3-4 daries where you could pick-up fresh milk, eggs, butter on your way back to points north.
thanks for the moment!!
We have stayed at Days Inn, 543 Hotel Circle South many times, and would recommend it. Not scenic, but clean comfortable rooms, good coffee shop and heated outside pool %26amp; hot tub. There are a couple of restaurants and convenience store close by. We have never been bothered by the freeway noise, which is hardly noticable.
We have also stayed on the North side. Slightly prettier but we thought more isolated, just hotels. Hope that helps.
George.
Thanks George. That Days INN is one I have a reservation at. I still may change it, but good to know you thought well of it.

I%26#39;ve prefer staying at the Hanalei Hotel on the north side of the circle. Nice grounds and somewhat tropical.
