Hey you locals,
What is the closest BART station to Japantown in SF? Going tomorrow afternoon for a quick trip - don%26#39;t want to drive over there from Walnut Creek. Can%26#39;t figure it out from the BART maps. Taking the easy way out and asking the TA experts!
Thanks much.
BART to JapantownThere really isn%26#39;t a BART station close to Japantown at all. I guess you could call the Civic Center station ';closest'; - but it%26#39;s not as if that makes it walkable.
Try using the transit planner at 511.org:

I actually did a test for Tuesday at 11a.m. and the system suggested taking Bart from the airport to Montgomery, then hopping on the 38I Bus toward 48th Avenue. Get off at Geary Blvd %26amp; Laguna St.
Lots of other choices to get there, this is just one with only one transfer and excluding cable cars, etc.
BART to JapantownThanks,
That%26#39;s kind of what I thought. I guess I will take my chances and drive over. Any suggestions on easiest parking?
Just go to the big garage under the Japan center at Geary %26amp; Webster. It rarely fill up except during the Cherry Blossom festival.
Yeah, if you are coming over via BART, the best spot is the Montgomery Street station, then picking up the 38 Geary, as sfimporter suggests. It%26#39;s a good workhorse bus and will get you there and back with minimal hassle.
Montogomery, take any bus up Sutter Street. You can also take the 38 Geary, catch it at the island at Fremont at Market. Before you exit BART, there is a four foot high machine with a MUNI logo on it next to the add a fare machine, push the round button, get a discount MUNI ticket, saves a quarter each direction on MUNI.
