My husband are flying into San Fran (from Austin) on Friday, March 14th and leaving Sunday, March 16th. There is so much we%26#39;d like to do, but we are afraid we won%26#39;t have the time to do it.
We are staying at the Queen Anne, which unfortunately, I understand is a bit off the beaten-path. Soooo...
Will we have time to visit Alcatraz, Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf AND Union Square on Saturday? Sunday is definitely out (we have an early flight), but I%26#39;m hoping we%26#39;ll have time to do some things on Friday evening after we get checked in. If so, would it be better to do Union Square or Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf on Friday evening?
Also, I%26#39;m not sure how we are going to get around. We%26#39;d prefer not to get a rental as we are on a tight budget. Should we look into getting a day-pass, or would that be a waste of money?
Much appreciation for any advice!

Hi, we have a similar time frame. We arrive 11pm the first night, have the whole day/night the next day and the day after pick up rental to drive south at 8am.
I have planned to see Alcatraz (Evening tour), Fishermans Wharf, Pier 39, Lombard St, Chinatown and a bit of Union Square. Although I don%26#39;t think there will be anytime for shopping.
All except Alcatraz we will see by hiring a Go Car during the day. This is the only way we can see as much as we can as quick. They are small little gas carts that you drive around in. They tell you where to turn and what you are looking at. Giving you the freedom to see what you want when you want. I don%26#39;t think I will be able to see as mcuh in SFO otherwise. I hope it does not rain. Google go cars SFO %26amp; they are also in the attraction part of SFO.
Not perfect as I am sure much more time could be spent in SFO. Keep in mind I have never been to SFO so this is all guess work and fingers crossed on my half.

Right in your hotel%26#39;s neighborhood is this memorial plaque: 鈥etblogs.com/archives/2006/11/queen_of_the_鈥?/a>
Your hotel is close to Japantown which has a large mall that begins at Laguna and ends at Webster on Post Street. http://www.sfjapantown.org/
there are several buses going in all four directions and if you use the transit trip planner, with a starting address such as your hotel, you%26#39;ll find that you can get to nearly every part of the city quite easily: http://transit.511.org/tripplanner/index.aspx
You should decide how much you really desire to see the touristy area called Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf vs. Alcatraz. You see a great skyline and the GG Bridge on the Ferry cruise to Alcatraz. book your tickets now for the tour that best works for the time of day you want. www.alcatrazcruises.com
The Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street offers better souvenir shops than Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, in my opinion. http://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com/
Chinatown as well. sfgate.com/traveler/鈥hinatown.shtml
Union Square is ideal for shopping, but on a more interesting historic and photographic level is Coit Tower: sanfrancisco.citysearch.com/profile/918533
and Golden Gate Park:
