Which Grayhound Tour?

We (Me, DH and son-11) are considering a Grayhound Tour to either Carmel/Monterey (11 hrs) OR Yosemite Park (14 hrs).

It doesn%26#39;t seem like we would be spending much time in Carmel or Monterey. I think 45 min in Carmel and 90 min in Monterey but I do love the aquarium there and it%26#39;s been at least 15 years since I have been there.

Two co-workers went to Yosemite and one of them said we should take our son to Yosemite because it%26#39;s gorgeous and he would probably enjoy it. The other person said while it was beautiful it really wasn%26#39;t enough time. She said that they were only able to go to 15 of the stops (?) there.

Another question. We are planning another Grayhound Tour to Miur Woods/Sausalito (3 1/2 hours). I have been to Sausalito and enjoyed it very much but is Miur Woods worth seeing? I think with our discount it%26#39;ll be about $75 for the three of us.

Thoughts?

Which Grayhound Tour?

You didn%26#39;t say when you are coming. If it%26#39;s October or later, you can go to the new Academy of Science, which will include a fine Aquarium. Otherwise, if I had to pick one, I would go with Yosemite. No, it%26#39;s not enough time, but it is grand. The trip to Carmel and Monterey seems rushed as well. If you are coming in the Spring, then it%26#39;s Yosemite hands down. The falls are spectacular.

As for Muir Woods, YES, it is definitely worth a visit. Quite a change from the Islands. It is a very special place.

Which Grayhound Tour?

There are a number tour companies that run a one-day trip to Yosemite National Park, and it%26#39;s true that because of the distance, none of them can really do justice to it in one day. Nonetheless, some foreign visitors who know they may not have a chance to come this way again opt to do the one-day trip so they can at least see it.

If you have the opportunity to spend overnight in the park, that is highly recommended. If it won%26#39;t fit on this trip, then perhaps on a future one? There are some companies who do a two-day tour, I believe. Extranomical Tours does www.extranomical.com. California Parlor Tours may also, since they do multi-day trips around the state. While at Yosemite, you will see the giant sequoia trees, which are not the same as the redwoods at Muir Woods, but are impressive and worth seeing.

While not the same, of course, you can get coastline views in Hawaii, just as you get coastline views in Monterey and Carmel. The same cannot be said about Yosemite.

It occurred to me that you could do your own two-day tour of Yosemite via Amtrak and the YARTS bus to the valley.

See this discussion where MacJack mentions that:

Securing early reservations for accomodations in the park is a must, however.

We will be there August 8-16, I guess we%26#39;ll do Yosemite.

I certainly hope this will not be our only trip to Yosemite as I have always wanted to actually stay there or Yellowstone.

Just bought my airfare so I%26#39;m excited!

Thanks!

Book your lodging in Yosemite Park NOW. The Yosemite Lodge would be proably the most economical, though the Ahwanee Hotel is lovely.
