We are planning a 7 day camping trip from Las Vegas to yosemite and Lake Tahoe (returning to Vegas) to finish off our holiday in California and as we are new to this type of holiday I thought I would ask the people in the know for their tips.....All very greatfully recieved.
Thanks
Wanda
ps I drive a 33ft long 8 1/2ft wide mobile library so I am used to driving a large vehicle.

Hi Wanda! You drive an 8.5 foot wide vehicle in England? Blimey, I am impressed :-))
You may not find too many RV%26#39;ers on this website, unfortunately.
An important question for you -- what time of year are you traveling? You realize you%26#39;ll be going over high mountain passes, there will be snow in the spring and some roads will still be closed.
Here are some websites that either have RV forums and/or are designed for those new to the RV world:
www.campingandrving.com
www.newrver.com
www.rv.net/
This website has reviews of RV parks and campgrounds:
www.rvparkreviews.com
And this one has a large listing of RV parks:
www.rv-clubs.us/rv_campgrounds.html
Hope this has helped!

Thank you for your praise Yep it 1 inch narrower than the legal maximum for UK roads and it can be abit of a handfull on narrow roads anyways we will be doing this part of the holiday the week thats spread over the end of september first october....we visited yosemite the 2nd week in october last year and found the weather perfect
Ah you won%26#39;t have any snow problems then :-)
What length MH are you renting (hiring)?
Foghorn Outdoors ';California Camping'; by Tom Stienstra ($21.95) www.foghorn.com is IMO the best California Camping book ever. Over 1,500 pubic, private, state, county %26amp; national parks camp grounds. It is my camping Bible! It also tells you vehicle accessibility.
Great source of US Camping/campers.

We were first time RV%26#39;ers in Alaska two years ago. One tip I have it to make sure you have food in the refrigerator and cupboard, since stores may be hard to find in some areas. In Denali we had to put dinner together from a convenience store, which was the only thing available for several miles.
If there is a rear step remember to put it up before driving.
Good points, Puter. I%26#39;d add: remember to put the antenna down!
Tom Stienstra also wrote a book on Oregon camping. I have read most of it and compared it with my first hand experiences at a number of RV parks and campgrounds in Oregon. He gives a certain amount of inaccurate information, or leaves out information which is important. I got the distinct impression he had not stayed in or even visited some of the places he listed.
But since he is from California, hopefully he is more familiar with RV parks and campgrounds there!
Just as many of us use TA reviews for hotels and restaurants, the www.rvparkreviews.com website I listed above is very useful.
Hi,
I have a webpage dedicated to RV%26#39;ing. While my campground suggestions won%26#39;t help you (mine are all for western Canada) the tips about RV rental probably will. Here%26#39;s the link to my page:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/adecc/
The RV tips are in the albums at the bottom of the page.
I hope that helps.

Wow thanks everyone I will sit down this afternoon and work my way through them, and in answer to the question about lenght under 30ft I would imagin as there will just be me and my husband....ohhhh kid free can%26#39;t wait
I have used California Camping by Tom Stienstra and it has been my '; camping bible'; He has always been extremely accurate so I am shocked about his Oregon book. That is nice to know.
As for the California destinations...his ratings have been extremely accurate and I have camped at over a dozen of his places recommended by him and have never been disappointed..with that said however, I usually never stay at a place under an 8, I dont mind paying a premium for a spot and I usually avoid KOA%26#39;s.
Have fun...wish I was tagging along with you!
