Pet friendly beach hotel or vacation rental?

Hi, we will be going to San Diego from April 24-27th (previous 4 days in Anaheim) and the kids (5 and 6) want to go to Sea World and Legoland. We will hit Legoland on the way down to San Diego and are not sure where to stay for the 3 nights in San Diego. We will probably need 2 rooms as my parents are coming with us and they have a small dog鈥o the place must be pet friendly. We wanted to stay somewhere near/on the beach so the kids can play/run. I am from the northwest and we go to the beach in January so temp wise April will be warm compared to what we are used to.

I have looked at Loews on Coronado, La Jolla Shores (tripadvisor mixed reviews), Best Western Lamplighter (it is not on the beach but it is cheap and has good reviews) and finally 2 bedroom vacation rentals at Point Loma (is the area ok?) and a small vacation rentals in Mission Beach (Sunset vacation rentals). Does anyone have a recommendations or suggestions of one place over the other? I would like to spend under 200/night or 400/night if we could stay in the same unit as my parents.

I dont know those specific rentals but POint loma is fine as an area in general. Do you have street addresses?In MissionBeach it is important to check to see if a parking place for your car is included,or at least possible. I don%26#39;t have experience looking for dog friendly places.

The Loews will be nice for relaxing and swimming etc. It is about an 8min drive from other restaurants etc. and then 15min more over the bridge into downtown.

IF you give us the streets ,the Point Loma spot might be central to everything.

Thanks for the reply. Here are the addresses for the vacation rentals: 2595 Ocean Front Wlk, 3969 Ocean Front wlk or 715 Tangiers Ct (rental agency states they all come with 1 parking spot). Watermark vacations has a property in Pt. Loma at 1364 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. All the vacation rentals (except for 2595 Ocean front) are $125- 150 a night cheaper than Loews so I was just wondering if Loews or Coronado for that matter is that much nicer to justify the price...if it is... no problem staying there.

thx

Here is my analysis;

The 3969 Oc. Fr Wlk. and the Tangiers Ct are near each other and are near the Catamaran Hotel whose location I really like.They are walking distance to ocean,bay, grassy park,restaurants,stores etc.It is midway on the beach.The downside is that it can be a crowded party area depending on who is renting next to you.

2595,is at the southern end of MissionBeach. I have friends who live about 1 block away.It is mostly residentialBUT you also cannot know who will be renting next door and th ehouses are on top of one another. It is also walking distance to ocean,bay,grassy park etc. Stores are a drive away,with a few restaurants near enough to walk.

As an adult I%26#39;d prefer Sunset Cliffs because it is more residential and more of a locals neighborhood without all the rentals I donot know how th ebeach is right where the rental is located.Ocean Beach DOES have a nice Dog Beach where dogs run freenear y. Ocean Beach also has a small town feel with a surfer/hippy tone to it.

You cannot compare these rentals to the Loews because that is a full service hotel.It is a bit secluded ,being about 8min from the restaurants of Coronado and then another 15min over the bridge into downtown SanDiego. YOu will also have to add in parking fees there. I like the feel of Coronado as an area .It has a small town feel with a main street and town park,golf courses etc.

Now that I have explained the areas I think you will have to decide which fits your family best.

Thank you a million times over for the excellent feedback on the pet friendly beach units I found...it really helps with my decision!!

I went to Dogfriendly.com and found the San Diego area for you. Here is the link of all dog friendly accommodations in SD area. Hope this helps.
