Last minute change staying in LA for 4 days I think.

My flights just got switched and I have an 11 hour layover in LA. So I have decided that I will just skip my flight home and stay in LA for 4 days and leave then.

I am travelling as one adult and two children under the age of 5. I want to be safe but as low budget as possible since this is going to be comming as part of our trip home after spending 2 weeks in Japan.

I don%26#39;t drive so will be relying on public transportation.

OK so I am looking for low cost place to stay thats close to bus lines or offers shuttles. I think we will do disney one day and I have no idea what else is available for the other days.

Oh ya I leave today for Japan so I will be staying in LA from the 22 until the 26th.

Forget about safety. The L.A. metro area is safe in all of the neighborhoods that are frequented by tourists.

It%26#39;s really helpful if you tell us how much you want to spend per night. There are so many neighborhoods (with different prices) that it makes it impossible to suggest something when we don%26#39;t know what ';low budget'; means.

In general, you%26#39;re looking at spending a minimum of $70 to $100 for a decent (not fancy) place. Is this about right?

Secondly, Disneyland is not in the city of L.A. It%26#39;s about an hour away in a southern county in the city of Anaheim. If you want to see DL as well as sites in the city of L.A., you will be commuting an hour (or more) each way to accomplish this.

You have a few options:

1. Stay in Anaheim and commute to L.A. on the day(s) you aren%26#39;t at DL.

2. Stay in downtown L.A. and commute to DL (southeast) and to the rest of L.A. (west and northwest). In essense, by staying in downtown L.A., you%26#39;ll be between most of L.A.%26#39;s attractions and DL (this is because downtown L.A. is NOT in the center of L.A. -- it is near the eastern end of the city).

3. Stay somewhere in central L.A. and commute (about an hour) to Anaheim (on the days you want to visit DL).

4. Stay in Anaheim for part of your trip (when visiting DL) and then move to a hotel in L.A., for part of the trip (when visiting L.A.).

If you are planning to spend only one day at DL, then select option #3. If you do select this option, we generally suggest staying in the Hollywood area as it is fairly central in L.A. and has good public transit access. Look into the Orchid Suites or Hollywood Celebrity Hotels which are around $100 per night.

Probably easiest to take airportbus.com right to Disneyland area upon arrival. Stay two nights, then on day 3 you could take Amtrak train or a shuttle service up to the Los Angeles area. Maybe stay in Hollywood at Hotel Celebrity or Orchid Suites. From here you could take bus transportation to the L.A. Zoo that afternoon.

To get back to LAX you%26#39;d need to take the metro subway down to Union Station and then the LAX Flyaway Coach.

L.A. is not a great city to be traveling alone with two little ones in tow and all the baggage, on public transportation. Disneyland is NOT in L.A. !

A couple things for you to consider:

- LA is spread out, so without a car you will be somewhat limited where you can go, especially with two kids under 5. Read the FAQs here and decide what you want to do our of what%26#39;s available. If you%26#39;re looking to mostly relax and spend some time by the beach, you may want to stay in that area. If you%26#39;re looking to do some serious sightseeing and shopping in central LA, then it%26#39;s best to stay in Hollywood.

- Disneyland is not in LA. It%26#39;s in Orange County, 1 hour drive from LA. If you%26#39;re only going for the day, your best bet is to take an organized tour that includes transporation and ticket. You can also go there directly from LAX via Grayline Disneyland bus, but if you%26#39;re not staying there overnight, you%26#39;ll probably be too exhausted to do that. But do consider an overnight there, since with two young kids you may want 2 days at Disneyland. Then, there is the problem of getting back to LA without a car from there. There are some shuttles, but they%26#39;re not cheap.

In general, renting a car will make your trip much more pleasant with two small kids.

In terms of hotels, as mentioned, we need a price range and your expectations. Be prepared to pay $60 and up for motels, $100 and up for simple hotels in cheapest areas and $150 in more upscale areas, and $200 and up for average hotels.
