My wife and I are spending our 25th anniversary in San francisco. We need to know whether to book a week in mid-June or late July. We want to do Carmel/Big Sur/Wine Country. What about fog and what about crowds? When is the best time?
Thanks a bunch!

June or July?
Either month will be pretty similar - weather is nice with 66 degrees fahrenheit being the daytime average. Both months will be equally crowded as school is out and people are on vacation
June or July?
During both of those months there may be a ';marine layer';...high fog, not low fog, obscuring the sun until noon or so. Crowds are probably less in June than July because some schools will still be in session then.
Incidentally, if there is a ';marine layer'; it is more likely to be in Carmel/Big Sur rather than the Wine Country...whether you are speaking of the Sonoma/Napa wine country or the Paso Robles wine country south of Big Sur.
Fog is certainly possible in both months, but June has more sunny days. In July and August, the heat in the Central Valley triggers our ';natural air conditioner';. Crowds might be slightly smaller in June, but not much. Fog is not much of a concern in the wine country of Napa/Sonoma. Temps there are often 20-30 degrees higher than at the coast. Carmel/Big Sur are often influenced by the coastal fog.
Happy Anniversary-- 25 is definitely worthy of a celebration!
If at all possible I recommend going the beginning of July. We were there for the fourth of July in 07
and it was the best fourth of July celebration our family has ever seen. Fireworks were unbelievable it was just a really fun time.
San Fransisco really knows how to celebrate the 4th of July.
It wasn%26#39;t as crowded as I thought it would be, but the fourth was very crowded.
Have a wonderful trip we stayed at The Columbus Motor Inn, and it%26#39;s a nice clean place to stay.
Everyone was very friendly and housekeeping did a wonderful job.
