What is the best way ( public transportation) for someone to get from SJC Airport to the UC Santa Cruz campus? Also how long would it take? Thanks
SJC to UC Santa Cruz Campus
Gosh, I am not sure. But here goes.
There is a Highway 17 Express bus which I think leaves from the airport. Portal to portal this would take about half an hour or so.
I think this bus ends up at the Santa Cruz Metro station on Pacific Avenue, from where there are many city buses up to the campus. Portal to portal about 15 minutes or less. (';portal to portal'; means from the time you get the bus until you arrive at your destination.)
Look here for the info on the Highway 17 Express, and then good luck interpreting it....sheesh..

Good luck.
SJC to UC Santa Cruz Campus
Your best bet would be the Santa Cruz Airporter, 1-800-497-4997. $40 per person, but the most direct way.
Otherwise, there isn%26#39;t a good way using public transportation. The Hwy 17 Express bus is the only public transportation between San Jose and Santa Cruz, but it doesn%26#39;t go to SJC airport. You would need to take the #10 VTA ';Airport Flyer'; bus to the Santa Clara Caltrain station, take Caltrain to the San Jose/Diridon station, where you could get the Hwy 17 Express bus to downtown Santa Cruz, then a Santa Cruz Transit bus up to the UCSC campus. Depending on the day of the week and the time of day, this could take all day, or even overnight. You would need to check the schedules of all these routes and figure out what%26#39;s possible based on your arrival time at SJC.
Thanks for the clarification, Bayatuning. I am surprised the Highway 17 Express doesn%26#39;t go to the airport.
Pscb, if you take the airporter, the Santa Cruz Metro station for a bus up to campus is on Pacific Avenue between Cathcart and Laurel Streets.
The ride from the airport to Santa Cruz is about 40 minutes, or, less.
The bus designed for commuters, not travelers, hence not going to the airport.
The SC Airporter should take you directly to the UC campus, no need to take a bus from downtown. It seems to be a standard airport shuttle service, the kind that drops people off at any location within reasonable distance of their route. UCSC is probably one of their most frequent destinations, so they should not have trouble getting you there. But I%26#39;ve never dealt with them myself.
Bayatuning...
Really? The shuttle will drop them off at their location on campus? Amazing. This is a 2500 acre campus with over 10 separate colleges and lots of buildings, locations.
It would require the shuttle to....well, never mind. Are you sure this is true? Can you give me the airporter telephone number or contact so I can check this out
Puter, I%26#39;m not *sure* it%26#39;s true that they would drop you off anywhere on campus, but I would expect that they would. I called them at the number in my first response and asked how much from ';the San Jose Airport'; to ';the UC Santa Cruz campus'; and they said ';forty dollars'; with no hesitation or bewilderment. Other than that, I have no experience with them.
As I said, they seem to be your general airport shuttle service (specializing in Santa Cruz destinations from SF Bay Area airports, at least SJC and SFO), so they should take you to wherever you want to go in Santa Cruz. I don%26#39;t see what%26#39;s so unbelievable about that, it%26#39;s the way these shuttle services operate. If they don%26#39;t take you where you want to go, and just drop you in downtown Santa Cruz, they wouldn%26#39;t be a very good shuttle service.
Maybe they%26#39;re the worst in the industry, maybe they%26#39;re one of the best. Maybe they only gear up when there%26#39;s a big conference at UCSC, and other times they%26#39;re crap. I don%26#39;t know. I%26#39;d call them with your specific arrival date and time, and see what they say. I%26#39;d certainly give them a try, if it were me flying into SJC for Santa Cruz with no car.
Perhaps they have certain stops on campus. That would make more sense. There is transportation up there.
