Hi,
I am planning to buy a digital camera during my trip to LA, as they are cheaper in the US then in my home country. Can anybody recommend some camera shops with good prices?
Thanks,

I have a friend who likes this place:

If you find a price on their site, make sure you print it out and take it to the store with you.
Sometimes the larger electronic stores have good prices as well.

Samy%26#39;s and Fry%26#39;s have good prices a lot of times. However, there are constant sales at Circuit City and Best Buy mentioned above, so you should check their site and see what%26#39;s on sale that week.
However, best camera deals are to be found online. It would be much cheaper to buy one online and have it shipped to your hotel. Most of the time you won%26#39;t pay taxes or shipping either. Check www.dpreview.com for camera reviews (they have a list of top recommended cameras for every need) and then look the one you want up on www.shopping.yahoo.com for listings of sites and total prices includes taxes and shipping if any.
i say you we might have a better idea if we knew what your home country is
yes, I was thinking about buying online and having it send, but as I am staying in Hostels I dont know if it would be reliable.
Also it seems that I would need a US credit card, or a a US billing address. So it seems I will need to be one in a local shop!
I like Best Buy, but you can go to www.dpreview.com and get camera reviews. It also shows the different prices at several stores for each camera on the bottom of the page. I love my Sony DSC H-3.
I%26#39;m doing the same as Remcie, but I don%26#39;t think shipping to the hotel would be a good idea? I%26#39;m staying tops 2 days at the same hotel and I don%26#39;t really trust that a $900 camera won%26#39;t risk getting lost. How much can be saved by buying online?
If I buy in a store, are the price differences big between stores? I am going to buy the Canon Digital Rebel XSi.
Buying online can be significantly cheaper since many online stores only sell online and don%26#39;t have the overhead costs that local stores have. If you%26#39;re staying at any decent hotel, there will be absolutely no problem shipping anything there. Cameras are shipped via UPS or FedEx when bought online, so they will give you a tracking number and someone at the hotel will have to sign for it when they receive it. Then they store it in their Business Center. I do it all the time for work with things that cost a lot more than $300-400. You have nothing to worry about. I would probably not ship to a hostel though. That%26#39;s a different story.
Thank you (again) smarcooki :)
I will be staying at the Westin the first night so I guess I could have it shipped there. Should I buy the camera one or two weeks ahead and then they will store it there for me? I guess I should contact the hotel first?
Is it better to buy from an out of state web shop to avoid CA taxes?
For stores like Best Buy and Circuit City, if you find a better price online than at the store, tell them the price online, and they will give you the online price.
Westin will be no problem. Buy about 1.5-2 weeks ahead and use ground shipping (usually 5-7 days). Use www.shopping.yahoo.com and you%26#39;ll see which stores have the best TOTAL prices (i.e. taxes and shipping if any included). Make sure to buy from a reputable online site with good feedback (it%26#39;s indicated there).
