I am travelling to San Diego for the first time in November 2008 for 3 nights. I have an 11 year old daughter and we want to visit Sea World,The Zoo and see as much as we can of the sights. I am planning with Fun Sun so am limited on hotel choices but have narrowed it down to 4. Ocean Park Inn, Dana on Mission Bay, Handlery Hotel or Humphrey%26#39;s Half Moon. Cost is not an issue but we wnat something nice. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Which Hotel or areaThe Dana and Humphrey,s are the best choices (IMO) and of those two I think the Dana is in a more open cleaner spot.
If you book the Dana try to get into the new rooms. The older rooms are not as good quality as the newer rooms. There may or may not be a small price difference between the two.
Which Hotel or areaOut of your choices, Dana would be best.
Just wondering if the Dana is an ok choice?
My wife and I just returned from a wk in SD and stayed at Humphrey%26#39;s on Shelter Island. Great location with views of the Bay and downtown skyline (from Suite 110.) Nice grounds and pool area and except for a few pesky ants in our suite, everything was great. Keep in mind Humphrey%26#39;s has outdoor concerts all summer -- not sure about Nov., but I understand the noise (music?) can be bothersome to some travellers. Humphrey%26#39;s wasn%26#39;t cheap but if that%26#39;s no object, then I%26#39;d recommend it. Get a suite so you can store some breakfast foods -- for the nightly rate, Humphrey%26#39;s should offer free brekafast, but not the case.
The SD Zoo Wild Animal Park (1800 acres) near Escondido was pretty awesome. Seven new lion cubs that were born in Nov. I think. Get face to face with their moms and dad (behind the plexiglass.)

Last year we stayed at Humphreys and I can%26#39;t recommend the area (Shelter Island) enough. You are on a quiet little peninsula and you have easy access to everything. It took us 5-10 mins to drive into the city, 10-12 mins to get to the zoo and 10-12 mins to get to Sea World. It took about 20-25 to get to La Jolla. You are away from the main highway but you can access it very quickly. It took us 10 mins to get to Old Town. The views across the parking lot of the city and harbor are very nice and it%26#39;s a very quiet and safe area where people walk and ride bikes etc. We loved staying there and also returning back to our hotel from our activities. Humphreys is not a 4 or 5 star property (3 star) but it%26#39;s clean, has a nice pool and the restaurant is very good and you are close to lots of other good restaurants too. Concierge is very helpful there. I wrote a review last April if you want specific info under Humphreys. Good luck!
With that said we%26#39;ve also heard Dana is nice too.
