I am interested in Hotel Diva for a five night stay.
However, I have read mixed reviews. Can anyone help me? If you know or have stayed there.. convince me this Hotel is not a ';dive';. I tried to get in the Chancellor but no vancanies on the days I will be there. Just need some feedback.
Any info on Hotel Diva
I have not been inside, but it is in a good location, across Geary Street from the Geary Theater, and is is part of the group ';Personality Hotels'; which own four others in the Union Square area, I believe. Its decor is evidently ';avant garde';, whatever that means. I would not consider it a ';dive';. Hopefully someone who has actually stayed there will come in here and enlighten us.

I defintiely wouldn%26#39;t say it is a dive. When I think of dive, I think of a place like say, the Grant Plaza or the Heritage Marina Inn (read the reviews on those and you%26#39;ll understand my definition.) I think the Diva is more of a budget option with a few extras... just your typical 3 stay hotel. I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s bad or great, it is what it is for the money.
I heard the decor described as ';unusual';, and, as I said, the hotel describes it as ';avant guard';. I think this budget hotel is trying to make a statement. A ';dive'; wouldn%26#39;t bother.
If you tell us the rates you are being quoted, we might be able to do some comparisons with hotels we are more familiar with.
Thank you all very much. You have been more than helpful. I booked directly through the hotel (did not pay yet) five nights for $140.00 a night for the Queen bed room. Taxes, of course are 14%. Total for the five days came up to $792.00. (I think)
I could cancel anytime and book elsewhere if someone suggests a better place and deal. I do want to stay in the Union Square area. We are leaving next week...so this late may be ';iffy'; in getting other accomadations.
We stay overnight in the city several times a year and I have to say that I think $140 for the Diva is a little high.
A couple of weeks ago we stayed at the Chancellor for that price and that included parking !! You might keep checking back with the Chancellor to see if they have cancellations.
Somebody is going to suggest bidding on Priceline, for a 4 star hotel in %26#39;east Union Square%26#39;, which may work, but which I have never used because I do not like to pay upfront with no cancellation.
I agree that $140 for the Diva seems rather high, but then again, it depends on your dates as to how bad that really is. If there is a convention in town or a popular time then I can see $140 being fairly standard.
