Hope to bring our family (%26#39;boys%26#39; 18 %26amp; 21) on one last big family holiday in June/July for 2 weeks. Novices as far as this part of the world is concerned. Want to do a flydrive -we have 3 potential drivers-but don%26#39;t want to drive all day every day. Bit sketchy on geography/feisibility of itinerary but places that appeal at the moment are San Francisco, daytrip to wine country, Yosemite,Lake Tahoe, maybe a flight to Las Vegas, then Grand Canyon .Would love to see Monument Valley too but not sure where this could come in.Thinking of getting the 2 stopover flights United offer so could do SFO-Las Vegas-SFO Would welcome any suggested itineraries loosely based on this-and any new suggestions. By the way, one son is a photography student, the other loves animals and would like to keep both happy!
Help with a tour starting/ending in SFO
You will get lots of advice on this trip. I suggest you do a search here. It has been done many times. I think trying to add Monument Valley to this busy itinerary would be way too much.
Help with a tour starting/ending in SFO
Agree w/ Puter...you can find many references on the CA forum .
As a start consider this...
SFO 2 night
Napa 1 night allow 4 hrs drive time to tahoe..
Lake Tahoe 2 night take 395 to 120 stay 1 night in Lee Vining - see high country over tioga pass 2 nights in Yosemite Valley (allow 4-5 hrs drive time to SFO evening or late flight to vegas
3 nights in vegas with helicopter to
Grand Canyon
LV return to SFO (might stay for 1 more night...
Not sure how many nights you have but this might be a start.
This is a nice two-week trip:
San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite, San Francisco.
It%26#39;s somewhat described in the reports ';A Trip to Anaheim…'; and ';A Trip to Las Vegas…'; linked to the TouringSFO site at http://geocities.com/touringsfo/ and the page of DRIVING DIRECTIONS at the site.
The DON%26#39;T-MISS SIGHTS and A BIT OF NON-GAMBLING LAS VEGAS pages at the site should also be visited.
Something for everyone should keep your family happy.
You guys are all crazy. 14 days for San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite, San Francisco?
Are you puttin our OP%26#39;s on? Come on, let%26#39;s get real here.
Puter stepped out of character to rant «14 days for San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite, San Francisco?
«Are you puttin our OP%26#39;s on? Come on, let%26#39;s get real here.»
OK:
San Francisco 3 days
Cabrillo Highway 1 day
Los Angeles 2 days
Mojave Highway 1 day
Las Vegas 1 day
Grand Canyon 1 day
Las Vegas 1 day
Death Valley 1 day
Eastern Sierra Highway 1 day
Yosemite 1 day
San Francisco 1 day
Why not?
Why not?
Because all you are doing is driving. Whew. Yes I am doing a rant. What an insane itinerary. But, whatever. Drive through the country and say you have seen it. Sure. Give me a break.
Puter said «all you are doing is driving.»
An average of about 130 miles a day.
Oh dear what have I started! Thanks for your suggestions so far guys. We aren%26#39;t too worried about missing out LA from the itinerary as we stayed in LA/Santa Monica a few years ago en route to New Zealand and my son also stayed there 2 years ago. Don%26#39;t know if this helps.
Skipping Los Angeles this trip makes for a much better trip and going home from Las Vegas makes it much better:
San Francisco 5 days
Cabrillo Highway to San Luís Obispo 1 day
Yosemite 2 days
Eastern Sierra Highway and Death Valley 2 days
Las Vegas 1 day
Grand Canyon 2 days
Las Vegas 1 day
Yuck. I%26#39;m with Puter. Drive, drive, drive. Enjoy the view. Too bad you can%26#39;t stay long.
