Which option provides the more visually appealing/scenic journey from San Diego to LA?
Also we%26#39;ll be staying in either Santa Monica or West Hollywood, what will be the easiest option for onward transit to either place arriving at the train station or the bus station?

Taking the train is far more plesant than the bus.
Not sure about station in Hollywood or Santa Monica. go to www.amtrack.com for all the info. I go to the LA station.
Bus depot and train station are both in downtown San Diego.

I agree that AMTRAK is the way to go. From Santa Monica the Big Blue Bus www.bigbluebus.com has service to Union Station (AMTRAK) in Los Angeles. From West Hollywood, take Metro www.metro.net to Union Station.
Take the Train and Go First Class.....Do Not repeat DO NOT use Greyhound
