Kelly Avenue to beach?

I would like to know if Kelly Avenue is pedestrian friendly or should we take the car to the beach?

Staying at HIE on Cabrillo Hwy...

I%26#39;ve have never been there obviously and would like some insight on best place to watch the surfers, doesn%26#39;t necessarily have to be in Half Moon Bay....

Thanks in advance for your reply

Kelly Ave has sidewalks so it shouldn%26#39;t be an issue

for pedestrians.

For surfer watching, go a few miles north to El Granada -- you%26#39;ll know you%26#39;re there when you see people changing into wetsuits and carrying surfboards by the highway.

Kelly Avenue is pedestrian friendly, however it is quite a trek (about a mile) from Holiday Inn Express.

I am thinking you will be glad you have a car as it has been windy and to the bone chilly here.

If the surf is up at Mavericks you can witness some gnarly surfing if you can hike about 1/4 mile from the Pillar Point marsh parking lot out to a viewing site or climb the bluffs at the radar station for an overview. If there is a good surf you will find some action at ';surfer%26#39;s beach'; aka ';the jetty'; on Cabrillo Highway at El Granada (about 5 miles north of Kelly and Cabrillo/Hwy 1 in HMB or just south of the Pillar Point RV Park, the Beach House and Sam%26#39;s Chowder House). You can see surfers at Montara State Beach in Montara or drive over Devil%26#39;s Slide (Hwy 1) north to Pacifica (about 10 miles north of HMB) where there are usually a number of surfers when conditions are right.

Thanks so much...now on to food...hub doesn%26#39;t eat seafood...any place casual with beef on the menu as well as fish?

thechick...keep your fingers x%26#39;d that you will encounter the same exquisitely clear and warm (72 is 5-10 degrees above normal) weather we had yesterday and again today when you visit.

thank you sooooo much for your reply...we had a wonderful time in Half Moon Bay.

The weather was great and the views spectacular.

Although we didn%26#39;t dine at the places you suggested, we did stop at a couple of them and took some pictures.

You were right about where to watch the surfers too...it was perfect.

We also went to Cowell Ranch Beach...nice walk down to the beach, so pretty.

We will definitely return....

Great...you did come for the spectacular weather this weekend! Lucky you!

I%26#39;ll bet Half Moon Bay gets pretty jam packed in the summer...we can%26#39;t wait to go back but we%26#39;re not into crowds.

We chose to take in the sights this time, next time we%26#39;ll do some shopping.

';Summer'; is foggy...a lot.

Best time of year for assurance of clear blue skies is April and again in October. Consider attending the annual Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival, the third weekend in October. Of course, it is very crowded (200,000) but fun. Best to plan ahead and make reservations before the rates go up and rooms are filled. I recently stayed at the Comfort Inn in HMB when my carpets were being cleaned...it was economical, clean and included an adequate breakfast buffet. Best thing to do is come on a Friday afternoon and leave for your 1-1/2 hr. trip back to V%26#39;ville after 6 p.m. on Sunday...after the traffic begins to break.

Thanks for the tips...

How about 4th of July? Does HMB have a fireworks display?
