Distance from Santa Monica to LA

Me and my boyfriend are travelling to LA in September and are stopping for 4 nights, we were going to travel into LA to do the sites from Santa Monica because we thought it was not that far away?? can anyone tell me if we are completley wrong and if we can get to LA centre easily or not? we do not want to hire a car.

Thankyou in advance

You are completely wrong. Here%26#39;s a map:

There is one error on this map: Hollywood is positioned incorrectly. It should be just south of Universal Studios. The transfer time from Santa Monica to either Hollywood or downtown L.A. (which is represented by the small triangle of blue lines above the words ';Los Angeles'; will take about an hour.

Further, transferring to Hollywood from SM requires transferring between 2 buses. To maximize the enjoyment of your holiday, either:

a. Hire a car

b. Stay in a more central location, like Beverly Hils

c. Stay 2 nights in SM and 2 nights inland (like Hollywood).

Thankyou for your help i think we may stay 2 nights in santa monica and 2 nights in la, where is the best place to stay in la for doing things like walk of fame, universal studios, stars homes tour etc??

Thankyou again

What is your budget per night?

拢60 - 拢100 a night if that helps, we want something modern and clean in a safe area with walking distance if possible to all sites.

Look into Elan Modern Hotel. It%26#39;s in your budget and ideally located.

Santa Monica IS LA. It%26#39;s just the beach area of LA. And it%26#39;s about 30 minutes to tourist sights - LA is enormous - but there are plenty of tourist sights on this side of town, too (Getty, Pier, Venice Beach, Promenade, etc)

Don%26#39;t let my esteemed colleague, Yogachik, confuse you:

Santa Monica is NOT in the city of Los Angeles. It is a city unto itself. Of course, we think of Santa Monica as ';L.A.'; because it%26#39;s so integrated into the L.A. communities that abut it.

A second vote for the Elan Hotel Modern. Book this hotel ASAP because it sells out quickly.

Thankyou both for your help i will check out this hotel.

Thanks again

If you are looking for walking distance to touristy sights, Hollywood might be a good place for you. The Magic Castle always get%26#39;s good reviews on here and you can walk to the Hollywood attractions and bars/clubs at night. Plus it is a easy subway ride to Universal Studios

Thankyou for your reply, i had a look at the magic castle but it looks like somewhere for people interested in magic, any other suggestions for hollywood area hotels?

Coming down from Vancouver for short stays, we have got into the habit of staying at a LAX airport-area hotel - usually Renaissance Montura. Free airport shuttle, proximity to the airport Transit Centre makes it easy to bus or rail anywhere, North or South.(And there%26#39;s a bus stop outside the hotel so you can be in Santa Monica in about 20 minutes), and at about 50 pounds a night it%26#39;s good value. Plus you eliminate the hassle of getting to the airport to catch your flight.
