Taking family (kids ages 6 and 3) to SD in early June - help

Going to SD from about June 4 to June 15. Timing was dictated by schedule. Discovered by accident why SD hotel rates jumped up the second week - US Open! I%26#39;ve reserved rooms online at DoubleTree Mission for a week, then we are going to Anaheim for Disney, then back to SD for a few days at a bay Holiday Inn. I reserved those places so we would have a place to stay, but I am not sure how I feel about our family vacation being based at downtown-like hotels. In past years we have stayed on the beach in Fla. and other places. Our kids love to swim, mostly in pools. Any advice? Am I OK or is there a better place we can stay for the whole trip (and cut out Anaheim)? I tried to find places even 20-30 minutes away from SD but haven%26#39;t had much luck. Thanks! Sue

Too bad abou tthe timing.Have you tried the Loews Coronado. I only suggest it becasue it si far from the toruanment an dhas great pools an dbeach access. It is a bit of a car ride(8min or so into Coronado proper)to restaurants but if you want to relax then it might do for your family.

Also,some people have suggested the Lawrence Welk Resort for families.It%26#39;s inland near the Wild ANimal Park but who knows it might be off the radar for the open etc.
