Suggestions to my itinerary?

We are visiting the area form 2/23-2/29. We have family in Rancho Cucamonga that we will be visiting for part of the trip. We used to live in LA about 6 years ago, so I am pretty familiar with the basics, I%26#39;m just looking for some suggestions about anything that we should add, must-do%26#39;s, anything kind of fun and funky. We are travelling with 3 kids, ages 9, 6, and 16 mos. We are not hugely into theme parks so I%26#39;ve skipped them (we live in central FL so, Disney is a yearly trip for us here).

Saturday, we arrive late, 10:45 - I booked the Sheraton @ LAX for this night.

Sunday, drive up to Rancho Cucamonga, pick up my fam, head to Big Bear for the day. Booked Ayres Suites near ONT for the night.

Monday, driving to La Jolla - we have no set plans for this day, we%26#39;re going to play things by ear and see how it goes. We are staying at The Grande Colonial, so will probably spend a lot of the afternoon at the beach.

Tuesday, San Diego Zoo

Wednesday, head back up to LA, probably doing the Aquarium of the Pacific and a Whale Watching tour. Staying at the Sheraton in Pasadena.

Thursday, car free day! Gold Line to China Town, then Union Station, check out downtown and Olvera St., the Red Line to Hollywood/Highland. Pasadena/Colorado Blvd in the evening.

Friday, we catch the redeye back, so we don%26#39;t have to be at the airport until 9-9:30. I%26#39;m planning on hitting Griffith Observatory, the Tar Pits/Page Museum, Santa Monica/3rd St Promenade, maybe Venice Beach area? Not so sure about this day.

We are pretty hectic travellers, so I am confident my kids are good keeping up the pace - we do a lot, and that%26#39;s how they like it :) Thoughts/suggestions would be great!

Suggestions to my itinerary?

I think you have it all figured out!

One thing that you may not want to miss on Friday is the new construction at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art - right next to the Tar Pits. You may not have to go into the museum to see the new design they have in the courtyard and entry area. It is widely covered in the LA Times.

I think you also want to go out on Santa Monica Pier - not far from 3rd Street.

Personally, I would save Venice Beach for last if I were traveling with children.

Suggestions to my itinerary?

I would do the Aquarium and Whale Watching on your last day before you leave since they%26#39;re both closest to the airport and farthest from Pasadena. Also, do Santa Monica and Venice that day too since they%26#39;re in the same vicinity.

Instead, on Wed do Beverly Hills, drive through Sunset Blvd, and go to the Grove after the Tar Pits and then Griffith Park on the way to Pasadena. Btw, why Pasadena if you%26#39;re only planning to spend one night in that area during your stay? It%26#39;s kind of out of the way for everything you want to visit and you%26#39;ll be in major traffic a lot of time getting to every other place on your list.

I planned the aquarium and whale watching because Long Beach is semi-on-the-way to Pasadena from San Diego.

We%26#39;re staying in Pasadena because (a) it%26#39;s familiar (we used to live there), (b) I have family that works at the Macy%26#39;s on Colorado and we%26#39;re planning on spending some time with her the evening after our ';no-car'; day, and (c) the Gold Line has a stop about a block away from our hotel, and the metro day is something we definately wanted to do - the Gold Line was not yet open when we lived there, so we%26#39;re very interested in checking it out.

what%26#39;s going to L.A without a magarita on the rocks from el cholo???? Avoid the one in L.A habra, though.

look them up online.

oooooh, I LOVE margaritas!! Thanks for the heads up!

Oh, man----you SHALL love these!!!! I strongly suggest that you order a regular magarita on the rocks (blended creates waaaayy too much foam!!) with salt!

I kid you not, these are the best!

avoid the one in La Habra, CA

BTW, I think that there is an el cholo in pasadena, but i have never been to this one so i cannot comment on their food or magaritas--i, myself, find that each one is slightly different. my favorite is the one on western ave. try the home made flour tortillas with carnitas (make sure it comes with the broth---yummy!. if you like spicey--ask for the habanero salsa...HOT and not for amatuers!!!!

man, im hungry now...all i brought for lunch was a banana, too %26gt;={
