Will be traveling to Yosemite this summer from San Francisco. Imagine I%26#39;ll be going the preferred route (108/120). Would like to avoid the high prices of the Valley stores, and prefer to stop earlier to stock up on food, etc. I looks like the nearest town is Groveland, but there really doesn%26#39;t appear to be much of anything along the way. So my question is, assuming thousands have traveled the same route this year alone, where would I find a decent sized grocery store between Frisco and the park - obviously as close to the park as possible. Thanks for your help.
Stocking up on supplies
Awhile back we all discussed the various Walmarts that are located on the route from SF to Yosemite. We all had our faves. The closest was in Manteca. There is also one in Tracy, Livermore %26amp; Pleasonton. You can look at the Walmart store finder. Put in Manteca and find all the locations on a map.

Stocking up on supplies
In case you aren%26#39;t a Wal-Mart shopper (I%26#39;m not!) another grocery store chain in California is Save Mart. savemart.com There are probably some Safeway stores along the way as well. Also, there is just one grocery store in Yosemite Valley, and although the prices are high, the convenience can%26#39;t be beat.
FYI ~ not ';Frisco.';
Have a terrific vacation!
Thanks for the info. Save Mart locater shows a store in Oakdale, which is still about 2 hours out, but guess that%26#39;s the best bet. Closest Walmart does appear to be Manteca.
As an East coaster I suppose I%26#39;m not familiar with offensive West coast lingo. No offense meant on ';Frisco';. I was just trying to shorten things up a bit.
There is a Walmart in Sonora, which is on 108 about 5 miles beyond the 120 turnoff, but a neat litte area if you have some touring time on that day. The historic railroad at Jamestown is very popular.
Have a great visit!
Oakdale is actually a very convenient place to stop for supplies and groceries, unless you want to take the detour into Sonora.
Just curious, though- where are you staying? Be aware that if you are in a tent cabin you will need to keep any food in a bear-proof locker.
I also think Oakdale is the best stop for you. SavMart is certainly OK, but I prefer the Fresh Market Grocery store. 1550 E. F St (hwy108). It is on the left just before you leave town. Very nice grocery store with a bakery, fresh made sandwich%26#39;s, soups , chinese, Coffee Bar, and even fresh custom made Sushi. I would also recommend you fill up the gas tank at the Valero station right in front of the store or the Arco across the street, as gas prices go up from this point on.
The Wal Marts in many of the San Joaquin valley locations have very limited grocery items. Good buys on other items, but I sure hate to shop there. (my own opinion).
Thanks again to all for the responses.
Not much of a camper macjack, I%26#39;ve got reservations at Yosemite West in a cottage. Stayed in Yosemite West on my previous visit and liked the location - 20 min outside the Valley %26amp; right on top of Glacier Point.
However, last time I came in from the south %26amp; would have preferred the same route this time, but because of the way I had to do my flights it would have put me in Yosemite on the weekend. In June. No thanks!
The Fresh Market sounds great CaSwede, many thanks!
I was reading the local paper today, and wouldn%26#39;t you know it? They said the Fresh Market in Oakdale just sold to Raley%26#39;s. I guess by summer it will be Raleys. Nothing wrong with the Raleys chain or Save Mart. Both are nice stores and will have what you need.
