My spouse and I are looking for a getaway this May or June and agreed SD might do the trick. All we want to do is enjoy nice dinners, a massage at our hotel spa, visit Sea World and the zoo (we%26#39;re big kids), do *some* shopping, and take in the bar/lounge scene. We%26#39;re in our late 20s/early 30s with no children, just workaholics looking for some fun and a little R%26amp;R.
How many nights in SD would be sufficient without growing bored or overdoing it? Also looking for suggestions on hotels. I%26#39;m thinking the W since we%26#39;ll have quick access to the bar.
Thanks in advance.

How Long is Too Long in SD?
Personally, of all the 4* hotels in San Diego, the W would be at the bottom of my list...unless you%26#39;re locked into Starwood. It is somewhat secluded...not really walkable for the Gaslamp nightime scene.
I think for other great, funky, good bar and lounge scene hotels I%26#39;d opt for
The Solamar - rooftop bar and pool
Gaslamp Marriott - Altitude Bar - overlooking Petco Park...definately a %26#39;happening%26#39; place
The new Hard Rock Hotel
Spa Tiki is a great spa within walking distance of all three
Plus, if you stay at any of these you%26#39;ll be easy walking to all of the Gaslamp hot spots.
How Long is Too Long in SD?
Thanks for the quick response. What about the length of stay? Is four nights too long, just long enough?

I think 4 days would be okay for a quick getaway and see the sites. I would only note that May and June are the cloudiest months of the year, so if having sunny weather is a priority...I just do not want you to be disappointed if the weather is not great for SD standards.
Four days was more than enough for me.
You might also want to look at the Omni Hotel. It is a block from the other 2 and although it doesn%26#39;t have the clubs, sometimes it is nice to sleep in a quieter hotel and walk to the others to party.
I would definetly do Hard Rock Hotel...It is th newest and hottest hotel in San Diego complete with Sweetwater club on the bottom floor then a whole nother club on the roof complete with an awesome pool with cabanas. Sundays in the summer they are doing Rehab at the pool just like Vegas but not so wild. Not to mention the rooms are crazy nice! And its a walk to the gaslamp, petco park, and tons of restaurants.
Also the Keating hotel just opened recently and there rooms are sooo nice! And it includes an awesome club which just happens to be the only club opened till 4 in San Diego!
personally id jump at the chance to go live ther so 4 days will fly by
will limit myself to 2 tips....
take the trolley tour early day 1 - its fun and will get you orientatated
but the rolley does NOT go there - do make a trip one morning and treat yourselves to lunch at georges at the cove - terrace level
great food
good prices
wonderful views
I just wanted to say thank you for all the responses. This was my post and I%26#39;ve already found this forum invaluable.

Another lovely hotel to check out is the US Grant -- not as hip as Hard Rock but very posh -- the rooms are really lovely and you are across Broadway from the start of the Gaslamp at 5th and Broadway.
My favorite downtown restaurants:
Breakfast:
Brian%26#39;s American Eatery
The Mission (in East Village)
Dinners:
The Oceanaire (high end fish)
Candelas -- deluxe Mexican
Red Pearl -- Asia Fusion with a club accent
Lotus Thai -- Thai
Indigo Grill -- in Little Italy
Buon Appetito -- in Little Italy
Tin Fish for more casual, particularly if it is a really nice day and you want to sit in the sun
Ra Sushi on Broadway
