Drinking Laws in LA

I will be visiting with my wife and daughter (8 year old), do you have family bars over there so we could go for a few drinks on an evening, over here in the UK we have family pubs where you can take kids upto about 9pm, do you have a similar thing? I know there is a British Pub in San Pedro called the Whale and Ale near our apartment, am hoping that will be kid friendly.

Drinking Laws in LA

Most are not kid-friendly, so you%26#39;ll have a hard time doing this. You may be better off going to a restaurant that serves alcohol. You may be asked to leave at 9pm anyway.

Drinking Laws in LA

Any bar that serves food may, but is not required to, permit minors, accompanied or not.

REPHRASE: Any restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages is likely to welcome minors, regardless of whether accompanied.

Legal hours for sale of alcohol, at venues of any kind, are 06:00-02:00. Actual hours are 06:01 01:50.

As long as the bar serves food, my understanding is that kids your age will be fine. The rules might change after 10pm at some places

For example, you will have no problem at places like Yankee Doodles on the promenade in Santa Monica with your kid while enjoying a drink. You might not be able to sit at the bar, but you can sit on the tables of the establishment

Thanks Alex, thats what I wanted to hear, cheers

In case you get homesick, there is a famous british pub in Santa Monica called Ye Olde King%26#39;s head with some excellent food

Yeah, I%26#39;ve been to that one before mate, they do a nice Shepherds Pie and an even better Cornish Pasty, last time we were in LA my girlfriend was 20yr old and was not 21 till the following month, what a nightmare trying to get a drink anywhere.

We love the Whale and Ale in San Pedro. It is a Restaurant Pub, with a nice bar, and good food, so you won%26#39;t have any problems bringing your 8 year old. However, we%26#39;ve never seen young kids much after 9 PM.

Thanks again, Whale and Ale it is then.

Why are the laws so strict on drinking over in the US, I remember when I first went to New York in 1994, every bar was asking me for ID and I was 26 then. Does it cause problems with kids drinking on the streets like over here, you go near the local shop on a night and there is always a group of kids outside drinking cans of lager or cheap wine.

The laws are strict here becasus of drinking/driving issues. Many of our teens have cars and drive. the combination of young people driving and access to liquor is deadly!!!!

BTW last weekend I got ';carded';(asked for ID)and I am almost 60-what a joke!!!
