Best way to get to Ventura

We need to get from Santa Monica to Ventura on Monday, Memorial Day to catch our ferry to the Channel Islands. Is Highway 1 up the coast the best way to get there?

Actually, no. Highway 1 would be the scenic way, but not the quickest. Take the 405 North to the 101 North. That would be the best.

Assuming there are no unusual road, weather, or traffic problems, that is that way I would go, but it is not a freeway and portions are only 2 lanes, so allow adequate time.

Are you leaving from Channel Island Harbor or Ventura Harbor. Highway 1 will take you up you Oxnard along the coast and then will cut across to the 101 into Ventura. This is the most scenic route (@1.5 hours). If you are looking for the fastest route - you can take the 10 E to the 405 N to the 101 N (w/out traffic @ 1 hour). Times are assuming no traffic.

Nothing beats the drive up the coast through Malibu, on the way to Ventura.

It%26#39;s a difference of maybe 10 minutes drive, as you%26#39;re forced onto the 101 at Rice (Oxnard), and Ventura is only about 10 minutes from that point, which is often the most trafficky point, and you%26#39;d hit it no matter what.

Without a doubt, I would drive the coast. Just leave 10 minutes earlier. And, if you%26#39;re heading up in the morning, you%26#39;ll avoid all the 405 and 101 horrible traffic. Why be annoyed first thing in the morning?

I think for 10 minutes difference, we%26#39;ll drive up the coast. Since it is a holiday and we need to leave early, I%26#39;ll hope for the best on traffic.

Good choice. Sorry for my bad advice; I didn%26#39;t realize it%26#39;s only a 10 minute difference. Enjoy the Channel Islands! I still haven%26#39;t been there, but definitely want to go.
