Hi could anyone please advise me what would be the approximately cost of returning form somewhere like Sunset Strip to the Omni Hotel. Or could you recommend which area to go in the evening for a something to eat and possibly a few bars and what would it cost in taxi fairs OR is it safe to tavel on the Metro at night. (By the way the night I am talking about is Friday 15th February)
Many thanks.

Taxi Costs
Yes, it is perfectly safe to travel on the Metro at night. However, two details.
1) The Red Line doesn%26#39;t go to the Sunset Strip. It goes to Hollywood. The two are different places. That said, there is ample nightlife in Hollywood. Others can make recommendations of places to eat and drink.
2) Getting to your hotel from the Red Line station Civic Center is a dull two-block walk. Walk up First to Olive. This is uphill. Turn on Olive and it is another block to the Omni. Incidentally, this walk is perfectly safe, although the lack of people on that stretch in the late evening hour may un-nerve you.
Taxi might be a good idea for getting home.
Little Tokyo is quite lively in the evening. Lots of good restaurants and bars and not all of them are Asian. Just walk down First or Second Streets from your hotel. Also, ask your concierge for recommendations for restaurants in downtown.

Hollywood would be the more convenient ';night spot'; since there are 2 red line metro rail stations in the neighborhood. This metro rail line has a stop near your hotel (the ';Civic Center stop';. The ride is about 20 minutes.
The taxi ride from Hollywood is about 8 miles. Use $2.50 per mile as an estimate and you get $20 + tip ($3). West Hollywood (Sunset Strip) is about 2 miles farther away (add another $5 in fare).
Juxie - thanks for the link. That will be real useful when I visit in March as I will be (shock, horror) without a car.
I%26#39;ve just used it for a few ideas I have and public transports looks even more likely.
I would also recommend to go to Hollywood. Just take the metro and get off at Hollywood/Highland. Plenty of restaurants and bars around for your to enjoy. If you really want to see Sunset Strip, you can cab there from Hollywood - it%26#39;s only about 10-15 mins away and will cost $15-20. You can take a bus down Sunset Blvd there as well. The metro only goes to Hollywood from Downtown.
Metro is perfectly safe for this. However, do check the schedule. If you%26#39;re going to be heading back past midnight, it will close around then. A cab back at night shouldn%26#39;t cost more than $25 or so.
Many thanks to you all for your suggestions. We will be there in another two days and looking forward to putting all your suggestions to my various questions over the last few weeks to use. Lynn
