Ok, I am completely overwhelmed. Where should ';Home Base'; be? San Diego Or Anaheim?
We are planning a trip this summer. Possibly early June or July. We are going to do the Southern California Citypass.
3 days Disney
1 day Universal
1 day San Diego Zoo
1 day Seaworld
plus
1 day Hollywood/the Grove for American girl Place
1 day Huntington Beach
My NEW question: considering how terrible I%26#39;m told the rush hours of traffic are.....I am considering the gray line transportation for the zoo, seaworld, %26amp; universal trips. Instead of renting a car for Hollywood, should we:
1. Just take a taxi - how much would that cost for 4 of us? The grove is about an hour. The taxi might know what routes to take to make it quicker than we would.
2. After landing at LAX, stay at a hotel close to Hollywood %26amp; the grove, then switch to our Anaheim hotel. Either go to Huntington Beach since part of the day is shot transferring hotels, or pick up our citypass %26amp; begin the disney part of our trip.
Huntington beach could just be a taxi right? Everything else on our list would be reachable by shuttle or grayline.
HELP!
New Plan ? Anaheim-San Diego-Hollywood
Checkers, you are ';so overwhelmed'; because you keep vacilating what and when and you are getting a whole bunch of ideas what other people like to do. This doesn%26#39;t necessarily mean it%26#39;s what you like to do. I suggest that you just sort of make definite plans and re-read this board and discuss it with who ever you are taking your trip with. I mean this is going to be a vacation, not a moon launch, yes? Chuck...
New Plan ? Anaheim-San Diego-Hollywood
No worries (Hukuna Matata!) - I%26#39;m sure you will get some good advice.
Here is my input.
It%26#39;s best to make Anaheim your base. You will want to be very close to DLR for your Disney days. Both LA and SD have higher hotel rates. However, some people find that spending a couple of days in a moderately priced hotel in SD gives them more of a chance to see all the sights there.
1. Taxis. DON%26#39;T take taxis, you will pay an arm and a leg and they are not easy to get (you must call for one and will be waiting up to a half an hour). Rush hour traffic is not all day, so consider renting a car for your trip into LA/The Grove and asking for driving advice on the LA Forum - or maybe someone here on the Anaheim Forum knows the best traffic time and route. If you don%26#39;t want to drive, I believe Grayline also has a tour that specifically goes to The Grove/Farmer%26#39;s Market. In the long run, since parking is expensive there and a car would require you refilling the gas you have used, the tour may be a good choice.
2. IMHO, not a good plan. It would be better to take the Disneyland Express bus (a Grayline bus) to your Anaheim hotel and back to LAX when needed. Rent a car to go to Huntington Beach. If I were you, I would actually split that day between two OC beaches if you can work it out. And having a rental car is perfect for a beach day.
On your other posting Darkbeer just suggested the City Pass with the special add on for bus transport to Sea World, San Diego Zoo, and Universal Studios and it looks like you are considering that. So you seem to have that transportation issue under control.
Here is that Grayline Tour for The Grove. You will see that it also goes to Grauhman%26#39;s Chinese Theater. Price is $32 per person, quite expensive. Parking there could come to nearly that much if you stay a long time and refilling the gas tank may be around that amount too. If you got a good deal on a rental car and didn%26#39;t pay for the extra insurance it could be around that amount as well. So, I guess, looking at it that way you would probably only pay about $30 more for a (narrated) tour for the four of your vs. a rental car and driving.
