JW Marriott vs. San Francisco Marriott

Okay, so I%26#39;ve narrowed our hotel selection down to these two hotels (thanks to the help of this website!). I%26#39;m currently booked at both of these hotels and I need to pick one. Basically getting the same rate and same type of room. Which of these would you recommend?

We are first time visitors to SF. Late 20%26#39;s. Prefer more modern hotel rooms.

Any recommendations?

JW Marriott vs. San Francisco Marriott

The JW Marriot is my very favorite hotel in the city. It was designed by Portman and was formerly the Pan Pacific before Marriot bought it.

The rooms are large and the bathrooms are to die for...marble and chrome with a soaking tub separate from the shower and a tiny tv to watch (or listen to?) while you put on make up or shave?

There is a valet service and I understand if you put your shoes outside your room at night they will be shined in the morning. (Never have tried that, and it may well be a throwback to the Pan Pacific days.)

Here is a caveat. We loved the lobby, with two fireplaces, a mezannine-type restaurant and a fountain with more than life-size sculptures of the dancing ladies in a Manet painting. The glass elevators lift you up into the open space to the top, where the rooms are arranged around that.

BUT. Last week when we passed the hotel there was a sign which said somehing like %26#39;watchthetransformation.com%26#39; and I understand they are re-doing the public rooms.

If you get a good rate because of this, grab it. It should not affect your stay in your room.

JW Marriott vs. San Francisco Marriott

(meaning the JW is usually much more expensive than the bread-and-butter Marriot.)

Thanks Puter. I did get a good rate. Actually $10 less a night the the San Francisco Marriott.

I called the hotel and all of the room renos are done. They are just finishing up a restaurant and one other common area (lobby?). Anyways, these renos are to finished on March 27. My trip is for the week of April 21. So I think it looks good timing-wise.

When I initally booked with SF Marriott, the JW Marriott was a lot more money, a $120 a night more. But I just secured myself a good rate, as mentioned above, so now I%26#39;m booked at both!

I think the JW Marriott seems to be the way to go. TripAdvisor ratings seem to agree.

Just wondering, do either of these have a better a location than the other? My husband and I do like to stay were most of the activities are (we%26#39;re Vegas-types!)

Book the JW... especially if it is cheaper than the other Marriott. I think you will really enjoy it, rooms are modern and the location is great. I think you will be quite happy there.

OH, you asked about location. JW is one block from Union Square, on Post Street.
