Hoping to go to California on a fly drive basis in July (due to school holidays)so am i worrying too much. I have looked at loads of hotel reviews along the California coast down to San Diego and so far I am having difficulty finding good clean hotels. It%26#39;s expensive to travel in July so don%26#39;t want to have too many upsets. Any ideas please will be gratefully received. Also is it best to use a good travel company or can you get good deals online (3 adults).
Hotel Reviews
Where in California? It%26#39;s huge here.
What%26#39;s your budget per night?
Hotel Reviews
We are looking at san francisco, monterey, carmel, pismo (possibly) santa barbara ending up in san diego for a few days rest!
We do like good hotels so budget not too much of a problem.
Is this far too much to do in two weeks?
I am not completely sure why you are having trouble finding';good ,clean hotels'; from the reviews on this site. If you read 10reviews of a hotel and 1 was negative, then I would discount it.On the other hand if MOST of the reviews are negative I would take that into consideration.
I would not bother with a travel company just for a hotel res.July is high season so it is hard to find a really good deal in these locations.
I can help you with San Diego but for the other locations you will have to ask in the forum for each city to get the most help.
In SanDiego there are many areas in which you could stay.IF you are looking for 5*** properties then the 4Seasons Aviara in the town of CArlsbad,(about 40min north of downtown SanDiego) might be a place for you.
Another property of the same caliber would be the Lodge at Torrey Pines. Neither of these are ON a beach but the beaches are nearby. In that summer season the Lodge offers car service and cabanas at a nearby beach.
IF you didn%26#39;t mean to imply that you needed a 5***
then there are many less expensive alternatives like the 2nd floor, yacht marina facing,BayClub rooms,a chain motel like the La Quinta/Oldtown,or the downtown Omni Hotel for examples.BTW our downtown is small an dpretty facing SanDiego Bay.
If you take a look at these and tell me which fits your idea of';clean and good'; then I may be able to give you other similar ideas.
Monterey: The Monterey Plaza Hotel %26amp; Spa
Best Western Beach Resort (oceanfront)
Carmel: Highland%26#39;s Inn
Tickle Pink Inn
La Playa Hotel
Pismo: The Sea Venture Resort (oceanfront)
Santa Barbara: The Harbor View Inn (across from the ocean)
Let me know if you would like any further details on any of these places, we have enjoyed stays at all of them! :)
Hi,
We were in California over xmas and I can recommend the following hotels.
Carmel - Dolphin Inn
Santa Barbara - West Beach Inn
San Diego - We stayed at the Del Coronado for most of our stay but also staye at the Dana Inn on Mission Bay which is near Sea World
The question is pretty broad Majorie so I would check the forum on each area you are considering. There are forums here for Monterey, Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara, Laguna Beach %26amp; San Diego.
If you can%26#39;t find the advice already posted on hotels, give an idea of what you are looking for in terms of price, location and amenities. For example would you rather be in a large hotel (Hyatt, Marriott etc) or a smallish (Best Western, Bread %26amp; Breakfast types, etc.).
Are you willing to pay to be on the water or would you rather save some money and be a block or two off the water?
Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the tips. Have looked at lots of hotels now need to get prices and flights. I%26#39;m sure the trip will be worth all this effort!
