Road Trip from LA to Grand Canyon

Please can I have some ideas of places to visit and best route to Grand Canyon, I am planning 10 day trip mid June. Also we are planning to fly back to LA so whats the best place to stay at Grand Canyon for that.

Road Trip from LA to Grand Canyon

Do you mean that you have 10 days to explore everything between L.A. and the Grand Canyon/Arizona.....or that the 10 day trip includes some days in Los Angeles and just a 2 or 3 day trip to Grand Canyon??

Road Trip from LA to Grand Canyon

The obvious would come to my mind and suggest to spent at least 2 nights in Vegas while en route

The long route by I-10 to 89N through Prescott, Jerome and Sedona is much more scenic than the fast route (I-15 to I-40).

I would probably do a circle and spend a day or two in Palm Springs, a day or two in Jerome/Sedona, a day or two at the Grand Canyon, and a day or two in Vegas.

The desert and Vegas will be very hot in June. It can get up to 50C during the day.

Thanks for that info, we are in Las vegas for 5 days ten flying to LA and have 10 days left. We want to spend some time in LA and then drive to Grand Canyon maybe stopping over on the way and then a few days at the Grand Canyon. The route suggested sounds good and will need to prepare for heat, this is half business, half pleasure so don%26#39;t have much choice about time of year to go, can%26#39;t pass up on the opportunity, may never get another chance!

Unless you are a hard core gambler, i think 5 days in Vegas is a little to much of a good thing. Might want to cut two days out of Vegas and use that time to explore some other places you might would enjoy in southern california

Cheers for advice, not hard core gambler but husband going to Las Vegas on business so have no choice but to be there for 5 days, I will make full use of the hotel spa whilst he is in meetings and can definatly do that for at least 3 days. Still could do with some advice on places to stay in LA and Grand Canyon, plus on route, hotels 3 star plus.

Please look at a map. It makes no sense to go to LA from Vegas and then go to the Grand Canyon if you%26#39;ll already be in Vegas. Vegas is half way between LA and the Grand Canyon. Go to the GC after Vegas for 1-2 nights and then fly back from either Vegas or Phoenix to LA (Southwest is cheap; also check Kayak for other airlines. From Vegas, it%26#39;s $50 one way).

It%26#39;s a 4-5 hr drive from Vegas to GC. You can rent a car to do it or you can go with an organized overnight tour. There are also helicopter tours if you want to spend the money.

Also, for places to stay in LA, please read the FAQs. This is probably the most asked question on the forum. Where you stay depends on what you will do in LA and whether you will have a car.

For the Grand Canyon, stay as close to the rim as you can get. I don%26#39;t know the places to stay out there, as I have only camped there. You%26#39;ll make the most of the best times there - early morning and late evening - by being nearby.

I second the recommendation to go straight to GC from LV. You%26#39;ll make the most of your precious time. Save LA for the end, just before you fly out.

Do remember to pack some warmer clothes. Dry desert air doesn%26#39;t hold the heat, so the temperature can drop significantly as soon as the sun sets.

Thanks for advice it is really useful, you can see I am not hard core traveller and probably not good at geography either!
