June Itinerary Help, Please....

I need a little help on planning our itinerary. Our plane arrives at 10:30 AM on June 13th and we leave for Vegas at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 17th. We are staying at the Embassy Suites in Burlingame (Priceline) and are renting a car. This is our current itinerary:

Day 1 (Friday) 鈥?We arrive, check in, head to Fisherman鈥檚 Wharf, go to lunch at Boudin. We explore the area, jump on a cable car, then take the night time Alcatraz tour, have dinner at Scomo鈥檚.

Day 2 (Saturday) 鈥?We have the City Tour planned with SF Comprehensive Tour Company until 2 or so. We鈥檒l explore until 5 or 6 when we鈥檒l have dinner at Hyde Street Seafood. We were thinking of doing BBB this night.

Day 3 (Sunday) 鈥?We drive to Carmel for the day and do the 17 mile drive, Monterey Aquarium, Big Sur, Point Lobo State Reserve having lunch/brunch (and perhaps dinner) at Stillwater Grill at Pebble Beach.

Day 4 (Monday) 鈥?We drive to Napa via Muir Woods for the day. I currently have us touring/tasting at Cakebread, Schramsberg, Runicon and Del Dotto. We would then have dinner at Cole House and drive back to the city.

Day 5 (Tuesday) 鈥?Check our, head to the airport and off to Vegas鈥?.

Our problem is that it feels like we are going to be doing too many things in too little time and I am not sure that we are spending enough time in the city. I recently brought a book on the stairways of SF and would like to tour/see some of them but I don鈥檛 know where I would fit them in.

Are we trying to do fit too many things into too few days? I was thinking of skipping one of our day trips, which one would you skip? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Hope

I am not the one to answer this as I don%26#39;t arrive in San Francisco until 8th June BUT your itinerary certainly leaves me breathless. I don%26#39;t think you are doing the city justice!

Others will be in a better position to more acurately answer your question but I would have thought trying to do Carmel and Big Sur in a one day trip from SF was neigh impossible and then following that with a whole day trip to Napa.

I have decided on 2 nights in Healdsburg and 4 in San Francisco but am already regretting not being able to spend longer in both!

You%26#39;re off to a bad start.

Good choices.

芦Carmel 鈥?17 mile drive, Monterey Aquarium, Big Sur, Point Lobo State Reserve禄

Can be done but it%26#39;s pointless as you%26#39;ll have to say ';I saw, but did not visit 鈥?quot;

芦Our problem is that it feels like we are going to be doing too many things in too little time禄

The reason it feels that way is %26#39;cause that%26#39;s just the way it is. Either extend your time here or don%26#39;t leave town while you%26#39;re here.

Lke SwingCha, I think you%26#39;ve made an unfortunate choice of hotel location in Burlingame, if your intention is to visit San Francisco. It%26#39;s only 16 miles on a map but the traffic can be very heavy. Moreover, parking can be shockingly expensive if you%26#39;re not used to paying $30-50 for just a few hours. My understanding of Priceline is that the charges are nonrefundable, but if I were you, I%26#39;d try to find a hotel in the city.

The itinerary sounds a little crowded, and I would recommend more time in the city. Your plans have you on the road most of the time, with very little opportunity to experience anything outside a car. Big Sur is beautiful, and I always advise friends to go there. However, the northern end is about 3-3.5 hours drive from the San Francisco airport without stopping, and then you have to drive back the same day. This GoList may give you some ideas, but your current plans don%26#39;t really allow time to see the area very well.

For this trip, you may want to focus on SF itself, and maybe make one trip outside the city, perhaps driving north over the Golden Gate Bridge to visit Muir Woods and some other sights in Marin County in one day. That%26#39;s a relatively short drive with some amazing sights.

Once I found out what hotel we were staying in I was very disappointed but I am trying to make lemonade out of lemons. I realize that the hotel location is far from ideal but I did the math and it%26#39;s cheaper for us to pay for occassional parking, gas and the rental car than it is for us to start all over.

I found the parking garage locations and rate schedule online. (Don%26#39;t you just love the internet?)

I also understand that we could park at the hearby Caltran/Milbrea station and then take a train/bus/shuttle into the city. Again I know that this is going to be a pain but...

After taking a realistic look at our schedule we have decided to drop one of the day trips. I think we should drop Big Sur but my DH wants to skip Napa. What do we do?
