If you had to recommend the most spectacular portion of this drive between San Francisco and LA, please could you share it with us? We are open to any suggestions - scenery and an attractive place for an over-night are the most important to us.

Most beautiful drive is between Monterey and Cambria and places like Point Lobos SR and Big Sur should not be missed. Try to stay for the night in Cambria at Moonstone beach. Also maybe consider to visit Hearst Castle close to Cambria. If you%26#39;ll have the time make it 3 days between San Francisco and Los Angeles via Santa Cruz-Monterey-Cambria-Morro Bay-San Luis Obispo-Solvang-Santa Barbara and along PCHw via Malibu and Santa Monica.

Thanks for your incredibly helpful advice, Tet! - if you had to choose to stay overnight in Los Angeles and see one %26#39;sight%26#39; what would it be - it seems to such a vast area that I reckon you have to focus on just one thing......?

My choice would be to stay at Orchid Suites in Hollywood. It%26#39;s not the Ritz but with free covered parking and right in the middle of where the action is. I also liked the way they handle reservations. You don%26#39;t need your car to stroll the area and Universal is close using public transport. Also maybe see TA hotelreviews.
