Hey guys, just wondering how hard it is to get into bars, lounges? In LA, staying in WeHo four nights. I have read some great suggestions from people: Viceroy (SM), SkyBar, House of Blues, Katana, Ketchup, Bar Marmont, Torpicana (Roosevelt), The Spanish Kitchen, Koi, Lola%26#39;s.
We are staying in WeHo and happy to take taxi and also meeting friend in Santa Monica one night (have car). But I%26#39;m not sure if these places are hard to get into? Do you have to get there early? Do you have to get on a list? Are these just celebrity/exclusive places that we wouldn%26#39;t have a chance to get into? I%26#39;ve never been out in LA so I really have no clue. I would rather embarass myself now then at the door of a bar!
We really want to go out after dinner and have drinks at some cool places that are popular/good. Have to experience the LA scene, right? I just need some realistic advice on what to expect and where to really go! Appreciate it.
Thanks guys!
Getting into Bars?
There are really only a couple of celeb places that you usuallly see on tmz like hyde or villa vs thousands of other great places that are easily to get in
Most of the places you mentioned are restaurants(Katana, Ketchup, Koi, Spanish Kitchen) so a simple dinner reservation will do
House of blues is a concert venue, so you would just have to buy a ticket to get in. If nothing to your liking is playing the week you come out, i would suggest to go for there Sunday Gospel Brunch which is a lot of fun
There are plenty of bars and restaurant in Hollywood along Hollywood Blvd, Cahuenga and Sunset. Some are easy to get into, others require you to be on a guestlist.
Were you just looking for bars or danceclubs aswell?
Getting into Bars?
Regarding Viceroy, on weekend nights after about 8 or 9 (in summer), a line forms. Weekdays, you just walk right in and straight out to the pool. But it%26#39;s always a good idea to go around 8.
I think we will be more into bars, but a suggestion for a club would be good as well.
Nothing on at House of Blues that I really want to see, but I%26#39;ll ask my friend.
I guess if there%26#39;s some places we really want to check out we%26#39;ll go for around 8 and plan around that. Otherwise like you said there are many places we can go for drinks after dinner - just try a few as we go, if we get in cool, if not head somewhere else.
Are Tropicana and Bar Marmont that great, a lot of people have told me about them? I think I would like to check Sky bar out one night for sure and the Viceroy in SM one night.
Where in West Hollywood are you staying? There are plenty of lounges, bars and live music venues there. If you want upscale loungy atmosphere, then Bar Marmont, Sky Bar (great view), ONE Sunset, The Standard etc are the places to go around there. In Hollywood, The Roosevelt Tropicana. Fri and Sat nights could get busy at these and thus harder to get into, but if you get there around 9-10pm, you should be fine at most of these. Red Rock, SaddleRanch, Rainbow Room are very laid back places there. No problems getting in. There is dancing at Red Rock on weekend nights; it gets pretty crowded. I would go there for Happy Hour, half off 5-7pm. Lots of people and a fun atmosphere. There are also plenty of live music venues to choose from on Sunset Strip besides House of Blues. Viper Room is famous, and then there is the Roxy, Whiskey, Rainbow, Cat Club, etc. There is usually a small cover and easy to get in unless the shows are very popular (famous bands).
There are also other bars and lounges around West Hollywood outside of the Sunset Strip area such as Bar Lubitsch, Winston%26#39;s, Lola%26#39;s, The Dime, Seven, etc. Once again, weekdays are usually fine, but you should get there around 10pm on the weekends to avoid hassles and lines.
Hollywood has a bunch of nightclubs. Ask Alex to put you on the list for one one night if that interests you. There are also some more laid back bars that are easy to get into unless they%26#39;re packed (weekend nights) which is when once again you should get there early. The Room, The Well, Star Shoes, Burgundy Room, etc are options. Hotel Cafe has small live shows for under $10 usually.
Santa Monica has a bunch of laid back bars on Main St. I%26#39;d recommend to have dinner at World Cafe there and then stay after as it turns into a lounge. Closer to downtown Santa Monica, there are upscale lounges mentioned above at those hotels. Venice has a few bars as well such as The Otheroom and the Brig. I%26#39;d recommend having dinner in Venice (Hama has good sushi and a fun atmosphere with drinks) after which you can head to Abbot Kinney for these bars.
Have fun.
Hi guys! So basically you can get into most places if your there early enough or willing to queue? Im in the same position - never been to LA and dont wanna stroll up to somewhere like SkyBar and be laughed at at the door for trying to get in!
You can get into 99% of the places as long as you
1. Dress up, and yes jeans are fine with a nice dresshirt for example and clubs LOVE Jackets
2. DOnt be rude or full of yourself, trying to bribe a doorguy usually gets you no place
3/ Have a guestlist hook up(I can help you out with those for a couple of fun places)
4. Have plenty of girls in your group
There are more exclusive places like Villa or Goa, which in itself are really smal venues, so they can be picky about there clientele. Most places in Hollywood are not like that though
Also, don%26#39;t stand in any line for more than 15 mins. That basically means you%26#39;re not getting in and are wasting your time. There are plenty of fun places without any lines. I wouldn%26#39;t waste my time going to celeb clubs like Villa or Goa. There is a slim to none chance that you%26#39;ll get in, but you%26#39;ll waste precious time you can use to get into other spots before they get too crowded.
^ You are 100% correct, i dont get it when people tell me they waited two hours to get into a club or not getting into the place at all. I can not imagine wasting two hours of my life getting into a place to spend my hard earned money
If this would be the only place in towm, i can see it, but this is L.A./Hollywood. There are thousands of places that will great you with a nice smile and be happy to see you spent your money in there establishment
15/20 minutes in line is a good suggestion, also see if the line is moving or if the club only let%26#39;s people in that come after you arrived(That means the line is basically just show and they only let in people they know or have a connection)
Sometimes at the beginning of the night the line might seam long, it moves rather quickly. At Vanguard for example the line is HUGE at 10pm, but we have everyone thru the door by 10.30pm as it is a huge club, it is just the process of checking id, paying for ticket e.t.c. that holds up to get people in any faster
