SLT - Late August

Hi,

My husband %26amp; I are coming into SLT from SF around 24th August.

Just a couple of questions, will it still be quiet hot %26amp; how easy would it be to find a camping site?

As I found on a different thread about Hot August Nights,(being down under, I had no idea it was a car show, I really took it as is %26#39;Hot Summer Nights%26#39;) that takes place on the 1/8/08 to 10/8/08 will SLT then be rather quiet - people wise.

From SLT we are going to Bodie %26amp; then through to Yosemite, before heading down to DV.

Also could you recommend any nice bars to have a drink.

Cheers

SLT - Late August

There is a nice bar and wine tasting area in the Mont Bleu Casino, located in in South Lake Tahoe. :)

SLT - Late August

The weather should be in the 80s during the day and the 30s or 40s at night. Hot August Nights is a car show in Reno, not sure how much impact it has on SLT crowds. August is a busy time, it won%26#39;t be quiet.

Camp sites book quickly during the Summer. It%26#39;s a great time of year for camping out, book soon.

I like The Beacon. It%26#39;s a casual lakefront restaurant and bar. You can sit right on the beach and have lunch.

No it will not be quiet in August before Labor Day, it will still be summer so expect people and families.

Hot August Nights is typically in the beginning of August 8/2/08 through 8/10/08. This takes place in Reno. It%26#39;s hot in Reno.

OK do you mean quiet or hot? Tahoe isn%26#39;t hot but Reno is. Tahoe is in the 70s %26amp; 80s and the air is lovely.

There are a few fun places in SLT for drinks that aren%26#39;t in the casino:

The Tahoe Pub - across from the Heavenly Gondola

Sam%26#39;s Place - Near Zyeher Cove

Nicer:

Fremont Bistro %26amp; Wine Bar

Riva Grill - at the Marina

Beacon Grill %26amp; Bar - Camp Richardson

You could find camping in Camp Richardson, Zypher Cove or in town at the Campground by the Lake operated by the Town of SLT

Looks like spotcat and I were posting at the same time. With the similar recommendations we make, sooner or later we%26#39;re bound to run into each other! ;) hee hee

Love to run into you sometime, Suzie!

If you decide to go to the casinos for a drink, you can get drinks for free......well, there is a catch. If you sit at one of the many bars and put some money in the machines to play, the bartenders will not charge for a drink. A $1 tip is expected.

Who knows, you may even win money, ....or that free drink could be very expensive.

The weather should be very nice, but there will be a lot of people that time of the year.

Death Valley in August? It will be VERY hot there.

thanks guys for all this information.

People I don%26#39;t mind and that is what makes camping fun, just mixing with differnt people, just trying to work out if i should book earlier than later.

I will need to convert the temp over to celcusis, so I get a better idea just how hot it will be. DV will be about 48C. We will most probably hit the non casino bars as later down the track we will be in Las Vegas.

Will look at the camping sites today %26amp; maybe book soon. Ahh being by the water in August will be different, usually at the snow in Oz then.

ok so not so hot, just checked %26amp; will be between 21.1C to 26.6C. Our summer is usually 30C-35C.

Oh well not to worry.

Looking forward to seeing SLT and the rest of country, we are taking 5 weeks off work for the road trip. Going from SF to NYC via the deep south and Florida.

That%26#39;s quite an intinerary. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for all the valuable info. We will really enjoy the trip, can%26#39;t wait..... just a pity I have to work! Anyway planning is half the fun :)

Looking forward to Lake Tahoe %26amp; Bodie.
