Overnight in LA on way to SLO

We will be flying from NY to LA arriving approximately 10:30 pm on a Wednesday night late June. With a great deal of help from Trip Advisors - we will be heading to Hearst Castle the next day, staying overnight in Cambria and then on to several other wonderful destinations. Should we stay at an airport hotel that night or pick up our car and drive away from the airport staying somewhere that will put us in a better position for our drive the next morning. Thank you.

Well, it%26#39;ll be 2am NY time, so you probably won%26#39;t care to drive too far. However, a 40-50 minute drive out to Camarillo/Oxnard would clear you from morning traffic in LA. There are several Comfort Inn/Hampton Inn type places just off the 101 freeway headed north. You could then wake up and head for breakfast-by-the-sea in Summerland or Santa Barbara.

Im hoping to get some sleep on the plane (?). I haven%26#39;t looked at a map, which would have been a good idea before this posting - but the Omni hotel has great rates and reviews for the night of the 25th. Is it far??? Wrong direction?? Thanks

Omni is in downtown L.A. which is not to far but you would have to fight traffic the next morning.

As much as it pains me(as i hate the airport area, lol), for your plans it would probably best to just get a hotel by the airport area. The properties are fine, we here on tripadvisor just dont like to recomend those as there is absolutely nothing worth seeing in that particular area and it is not a convinient location to explore L.A.

In your case however, i hardly doubt you are up for exploring the city, so just get some rest at a hotel in the area and go on with your journey the next day well rested

I hate airport hotels, so I%26#39;m hoping we have enough steam to get our car and drive to The Hampton Inn, which looks lovely. We can have a late breakfast somewhere picturesque and get on the road. It just sounds like it would be a nicer way to start our trip rather than waking up to an airport and traffic.

Thank you both.

I feel you, i hate those hotels aswell.lol. By all means if you can make it easily to the hotel of your choice, just do it. Also Marina Del Rey and Santa Monica is not to far from the airport and a world away from that concrete jungle

Are Marina Del Rey and Santa Monica closer than Oxnard (which seems to be almost an hour away)? If so, please suggest a hotel and we will happily stay there.

thanks

Marina Del Rey or Santa Monica are only 15/20 minutes from the airport. At 10.30pm at night probably even a couple of minutes. What is your budget. The Loews or Shutters are excellent hotels right by the beach in Santa Monica but can be pricy

I%26#39;ve always wanted to stay at Shutters on the Beach. Last time was in LA and priced it - it was crazy, but they are both great places %26amp; I will check them out. However, its not so much my bdget as we%26#39;re going to get there late and leave early....soa Westin, JW Marriott, or Starwood (I have points)

If you land at 10:30 PM, get your luggage, and rent your car, it%26#39;s going to be closer to Midnight. I would just get an airport hotel, and take off in the morning after 9:30 am. One thought would be to just take a shuttle to a hotel, and then get your car the next morning. Which city is the Hampton Inn you are looking at?

Oxnard - which is too far for a shuttle. We;ll probably just stay at the airport (ugh).
