Hi- I did search the reviews on this restuarant here on TA, and the recent ones were either really good or really bad! This restaurant was featured on TV and in something we read, so we thought it would be interesting! Also, is it convenient to get to without a car? Any comments are appreciated! Thanks!
Stinking Rose-Worth a visit?
Yes, it%26#39;s easy to get to without a car. I often walk to North Beach from Union Square, but buses/cable car go right through there as well.
I say it%26#39;s not worth it, and it%26#39;s not really a place that locals eat at. It%26#39;s in the center of North Beach/Little Italy and so there are a ton of other restaurants nearby that have better food.
Stinking Rose-Worth a visit?
Sox Gal,
I am a former New Yorker who loves Italian food. I was at the Stinking Rose about 10 years ago. It is a unique place that is worth dining at for the curiosity factor. If you LOVE garlic, get the roasted garlic bulbs soaked in olive oil. The roasting takes the pungent aroma out of them but the tase is still there. The entrees are forgettable but you will have to take a long shower and spray with perfume to get the garlic odor out of your skin.
Being Italian, I LOVE that scent! Go for the appetizers, cheap Chianti and then go to another North Beach place further down the street for dinner.

I live in the SF Bay Area and really enjoy the Stinking Rose when we get a chance to go to SF for dinner. There is also a restaurant across the street called Steps of Rome which I have had great meals at.
Thank you both for your help!
I went there in January with my parents and it was surprisingly good! I had garlic roasted prime rib and garlic mashed pototoes and thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
The service was a little spotty however.
We have one here in LA that I tried, and it was pretty awful. I don%26#39;t know about the SF one, but if it%26#39;s anything like the one here, it%26#39;s a tourist trap kind of place with mediocre food and service. Hope that helps!
Completely agree with the above, but I guess it%26#39;s all relative!

Thanks for the help! We may put it off this trip, as we only have two days!
Oh, with only 2 days, then I%26#39;d definitely go elsewhere.
Where else are you considering? If you enjoy Asian food at all, you should definitely go to the Slanted Door.
We are going to the Giants game Sat. night and for dim sum at some point. I got great recommendations for the dim sum and ballpark food on previous posts! I will look up the restaurant you recommend! Thanks!
