Activities Advice for Single Woman Visiting in August ?

I%26#39;ll be attending a convention in early August at an upscale hotel near Beverly Hills. No car. Any thoughts on bus tours or other arranged activities ? Is it far/expensive to travel by cab or public transportation to the Getty Museum ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Beverly Hills is very central in the L.A. metro area but the public transit service isn%26#39;t that great (probably because people in BH don%26#39;t take buses that much).

Feel free to rent a car for a day if you need to. If you plan ahead, you can get a good rate.

The metro bus and metro rail schedules are on MTA.NET

In the upper right corner, you can put in the starting point (hotel%26#39;s address) and ending point (Getty Museum) in the two boxes, select the departure/arrival time and the day of the week, and the site will offer public transit options to you.

Since you%26#39;ve omitted the name of your hotel, I cannot tell you the time it will take to get to the Getty or estimate the cab fare. Will your touring be on the weekend? If so, traffic will be lighter and taxi fares will be less. In addition, public transit routes are different on the weekend compared to weekdays. I%26#39;ll take a wild guess and assume that your hotel is the Hyatt Regency in Century City (or near by it). I%26#39;ll assume your visit to the Getty to be on a Saturday. If that is the case, here are the transfer options:

1. By bus -- several routes by all of them require taking 3 buses in succession. Total fare between $4.10 and $5 round trip with transfer times of about an hour, each way.

2. By taxi -- 5.76 miles. Taxi rates are:

a. $2.65 for first 1/7th mile

b. $2.45 per mile thereafter

c. 44 cents for each minute of ';waiting time'; (taxi stopped at a red light or stuck in traffic).

d. 15 percent tip

Total fare on Saturday should be approximately:

$2.65 + $2.45 x 5.61 + 4 x .44 + 15%

$2.65 + $13.72 + $1.76 + $2.72 =

$29,85 each way. The drive should take about 15 minutes.

What else do you want to do while here, besides visit the Getty. I would just keep it easy, and take a cab to the museum, it will be quick, and maybe about $20 each way, at most.

Where are you staying? Many of the hotels have a wealthy of information about tours, in their lobby, with the concierge. Some even have a free shuttle to take you within a certain radius. And some even have tours to the museums.

Yes, check with your hotel. Which one is it? I%26#39;m sure they have tours that pick up from there if you want to avoid public transportation and expensive cabs.

The Getty is not actually that far from Beverly Hills. $20 each way sounds about right.

You should decide what else you%26#39;re going to do while here. Depending on that and how much time you have outside of your convention, it may be worth renting a car if you want to fit in as much as possible.

You can easily take the bus(#704) along Santa Monica Blvd from Beverly Hills and spent a day in the Santa Monica/Beach area.

Plenty of places to walk around, maybe shop a little and have some nice lunch. And of course take in the ocean aswell

As a single woman, without transport, visiting LA, I booked the Starline tour to the Getty. There was only about five of us on the minibus but the driver pointed out quite a few sights on the way. I think it was something like $35 + tip but I thought it was worth it. I also did the full city tour, which gave me a taste of LA. If you%26#39;re there during the weekend and like architecture, I did a good walking tour with LA conservancy but you would need to get downtown for that.
