What is your Do Not Miss List???

Hi! My husband has a weekend layover in San Fran May 31 till June 2. I am flying out there to meet him (without kids!!!) on Sat at 1:00pm and will be leaving Monday at 1:00pm. We have never vacationed here. Our hotel is at Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf. That said... We need suggestions of what to see and do for 2 nights and all day on Sunday. I know there are too many fabulous things in San Fran but I want to know the DO NOT MISS LIST! Thanks for any input!

What is your Do Not Miss List???

DO NOT MISS the search box at the top of this page!!!

What is your Do Not Miss List???

My wife and I vacationed in SF a couple of years ago, so I would include the following:

- Golden Gate Park - it%26#39;s huge, but it%26#39;s worth lookig into. There are some really interesting parts.

- Wine country - you may or may not have time, but a day there is quite a bit of fun

- The Farmers Market is unique and fun

- Finally, simply put the uniqueness of the city itself. Sometimes it%26#39;s just as fun to simply ';explore'; than it is to have a fully planned itinerary.

Take a ferry to Tiburon or Sausalito and have lunch or rent a car and drive over the G.G.bridge. Have dinner in north beach. The list goes on and on.

:))))))))

Shopping in Union Square and the Ferry Building Marketplace down by the Embarcadero are not to miss! If you love gorgeous, elegant hotels, schedule a lunch at the Ritz-Carlton. Have fun! :)

Scott in Kansas City... Which area of wine country did you visit? That is something we would like to check into.

Don%26#39;t miss walking! it%26#39;s an amazing city to walk. Enjoy the food, the art galleries, the streets and the views, vintage shopping. A splendid city. Great people. Much character.

The Golden Gate Bridge is definately on my MUST SEE list.

I%26#39;ve also heard that the night tour of Alcatraz is absolutely amazing, well worth the extra cost.

And anyone who spends any length of time in San Francisco without riding a Cable car at least once needs to be spanked with a loaf of sourdough, or so says my friend:)

Of course, see the Golden Gate Bridge, have a seafood meal at Scoma%26#39;s at FW, a ride on a cable car, visit Chinatown, and treat yourself to Afternoon Tea, at the Palace Hotel in the Garden Court between 1-3 PM. You%26#39;ll be blown away by the beautiful stained glass ceiling in the atrium.

A visit to the DON%26#39;T-MISS SIGHTS in SAN FRANCISCO page at geocities.com/touringsfo/Articles/Sights.html is just what you seek!

Wow, you don%26#39;t have much time... he%26#39;s a way to squeeze most of the 1st time/must see stuff:

Sat: Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf/Pier 39, Alcatraz (book NOW!!!, burn off 400 calories walking up to Coit Tower go down the back side to possibly see the wild parrots. Regain 800 calories and have dinner in North Beach. Walk back to make up the difference. If you%26#39;re ';foodies'; you might want to swing by the Ferry Building Farmer%26#39;s Market in the afternoon... definitely unlike any farmer%26#39;s market in the world.

Sun: Take Cable Car (Powell/Hyde) from Ghiradeli Square, stopping at the Cable Car Museum, then on to Union Square (shopping!), lots to see too. Walk back up through Chinatown. Eat dim sum for lunch (lots of suggestions via the search box above). Take the #30 stockton bus to Chestnut St/Laguna, transfer to the #28 bus up to the Golden Gate Bridge. From there I might suggest taking a chance on something most tourists don%26#39;t do and go to dinner out of the toursity area. Try Aziza for Moroccan food on Geary Blvd. One of our city%26#39;s best. Or Pacific Cafe for really fresh/friendly seafood (also on Geary). Might want to take a cab back or a combination of buses (#38 Geary down to Van Ness then the #47).

Monday: If you like museums, the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) is definitely worth a trip. For the science minded or the kid a heart, the Exploratorium is an amazing hands on science place really great. For History buffs, right at Fishmerna%26#39;s Wharf there is the SF maritime Museum (FREE), the Musee Mechanique (arcade games from the past 150 years - Free!) and the USS Pompanito a submarine turned floating museum, really neat.

**Monday mornings is probably a good time to do Alcatraz if you haven%26#39;t already, so you can flip flop that with

That%26#39;s what I%26#39;d do if I only had 48 hours. You%26#39;ll have to come back!
