Hi,
We intend coming over to ski in late December/early January and had basically settled on going to Heavenly at South Lake Tahoe. However having read some of the reviews about Heavenly on TA we%26#39;re not so sure now.
We are all intermediate skiers and are used to ';ski in/ski out'; resorts and using lodge style accomodation.
I%26#39;d appreciate any suggestions about alternate resorts elsewhere in CA or other states
Cheers,
JB
Best Family Ski Resort in the USA?
Check out Northstar at Lake Tahoe. I%26#39;m not a downhill skier but I%26#39;ve stayed there and it sounds like just what you%26#39;re looking for.
I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get other suggestions as well (from folks who actually ARE skiers,) but I do recommend that you post your question in either the general California Forum or the Lake Tahoe forum, rather than the SF one. You should also post at the forums in Colorado, Utah and more. The US has some great ski resorts, and we in CA are likely to recommend our own.
Best Family Ski Resort in the USA?
Thanks macjack. Will do.
I think Heavenly and Northstar are both good choices. I like to take my family to Alpine meadows, it%26#39;s more low key, not a giant destination resort like Heavenly %26amp; Squaw Valley, not as crowded usually. Northstar IMHO is a better Mt for intermediate skiers (than Heavenly), much of the mt. is intermediate and I think easier to access than Heavenly. You can%26#39;t go wrong either way.
Heavenly is in south Tahoe, there is a lot more activity there. casino%26#39;s, many more hotels %26amp; restaurants. The others mentioned are on the north side of the lake, it%26#39;s a little more rustic, but still plenty of civilization, restaurants, etc.

There are other good options as well in the Tahoe area
This question was posted on another forum where persons advised that coming all the way from Australia to find snow in California in December would be a real risk. Suggestions included Colorado and Utah.
I answered on your Colorado question. Even when there is a lot of snow, you will find a very different kind of snow in Colorado and Utah than you will in California. You will often hear of ';California cement'; and ';Colorado champagne';. The temps in Colorado tend to be much colder and the snow very dry. I California you shovel your car out, in Colorado, a broom will do the trick on most days.
Good luck finding the right venue for you and your family.
Definitely look into Park City, Utah
Thanks very much for all your suggestions.We%26#39;ll be doing some more homework
