Folsom Prison Museum

Can anyone tell me if this is a worthwhile visit?

I%26#39;ve been to Easter State Pen in Phila and Alcatraz, both were interesting, but possibly more famous.

I can only tell you what I%26#39;ve heard as I%26#39;ve never actually gone in the museum. It%26#39;s small, has some history, but it will not ';wow'; you. It used to sell inmate handicraft items also.

It will be a joke compared to Alcatraz. You may get some ok photo ops of the front gate area, but unless you have something else going on in the area, it probably is not worth going out of your way for. There are two active prisons on site (Old Folsom and New Folsom), so you won%26#39;t be able to see any secure areas, walk the yard, see the jail cells, chow halls, etc.

If you are near San Rafael (north bay area), San Quentin had a decent little musuem (outside the wall) if you are into that kind of thing.
