Help Needed Finding Hotel on Market Street!

Help! My husband needs a hotel in S.F. near Cafe du Nord nightclub at 2170 Market Street for a special event he is attending on May 19th. From what I can see, this is a fairly seedy area. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel thats not too far away the Club? Hubby is driving for L.A. for one night, thus he doesn%26#39;t want to drive once he gets to S.F. if at all possible.

first, this is NOT a seedy area; it is mixed retail and residential. whomever misled you to think it is seedy, needs to see it for themselves. second, there are guesthouses nearby which rate higher than the motor lodges in the area:

Help Needed Finding Hotel on Market Street!

Thanks for your reply since you seem to know the answer. Hubby says he prefers a regular hotel even if he has to catch a taxi to Club Du Nord. Do you know a chain hotel (not a hotel 6 or equivalent) that not too far away?

sorry, that was ';area'; not ';answer';

I would never recommend a chain or a franchise anything and I hope the Whitcomb is neither.

It%26#39;s on Market Street %26#39;tween Eighth and Ninth Streets. Transportation from Café du Nord is at the door and to is directly across the street. Although it%26#39;s only a few blocks, they%26#39;re rather long.

It is not seedy but I would not recommend anything in that area.

As always your best bet is to use priceline and then take a cab. With the money you save you can probably afford 5 rides per night between your hotel and whatever it is you need to do at Cafe du Nord.

If for some reason you don%26#39;t want to use priceline then I would recommend one of the nice hotels on or off Market below 5th Street like the Argent. You can take MUNI metro to Cafe du Nord (10 minutes) or a cheap taxi.

Check the reviews for Beck%26#39;s Motor Lodge; it%26#39;s just a couple of blocks from Cafe du Nord. I live in the neighborhood; it%26#39;s not seedy, just urban.

SwingCha and I do not agree on the Whitcomb Hotel. I do not like the area at all.

I do not know Beck%26#39;s Motor Lodge, but a couple of days ago someone on this forum recommended a ';no'; to someone who is coming for Gay Pride, saying that it gets boisterous during that time with ';cruisers';.

Cafe du Nord is on the same block as the Church Street Muni station. Your husband could stay anywhere near Market Street (including many of the big hotels near Union Square or the Embarcadero) and easily take the subway the three stops it would take to get there.

Pull up Google Maps and look for a hotel that would suit him near one of the other subway stops (Powell, Montgomery, or Embarcadero). Maybe the new InterContinental?
