We will be visiting San Diego for 5 nights in August. We have Sheraton points and will use them for a free room. We have a limited number of points so we need to stay at a lower end Sheraton. I%26#39;m not sure which Sheraton hoyel to choose - Sheraton Mission Valley (2 rooms) or Sheraton Suites at Symphony Hall (1 room). We would like something that is centrally located to the attractions (Balboa Park, Sea World, Gas Lamp district, beaches, etc.), but also clean and modern. A hotel that you can walk to restaurants would be great. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
San Diego Sheraton Recommendations
Hmmm, Will you have a rental car while you are here?
I ask because the La Jolla Sheraton (about 20min north of downtown) has been recently refurbished(used to be a Radisson). Otherwise, the Sheraton Suites downtown will be the most convenient if you need public transportation.
San Diego Sheraton Recommendations
We will have a car. I%26#39;ll look into La Jolla Sheraton. Thanks for the tip.
The rooms at the Sheraton Suites, Sheraton Mission Valley, and Sheraton La Jolla have all been refurbished within the last year. The La Jolla area is more scenic than the Mission Valley area and Downtown area(if that matters).
The Sheraton La Jolla wasn%26#39;t available for our dates. I ended up booking at the Sheraton Suites Symphony Hall. I am hoping it walking distance to more attractions and places to eat. Thanks for your help. Now I%26#39;m trying to figure what to do while we%26#39;re here for 5 days. Any recommendations for a family beach? My kids aren%26#39;t really into the beach, but I want to go for at least 1 afternoon.
How old are the kids?
Maybe they%26#39;d like the beach if there were activities like tide pooling at low tide or surfing lessons,or sea kayaking etc.
Coronado has a nice family beach and the area of Coronado is nice with lots of little shops and places to eat.
The Sheraton Suites is about 7 blocks from the north end of the Gaslamp Quarter. The Gaslamp is an urban area with lots of dining, hotels, bars/lounges, nightlife, and some shops.
The Horton Plaza shopping mall(Macys and Nordstrom) is about 10 blocks from the Sheraton.
Seaport Village is about 2 miles(25 blocks) from the Sheraton.
Great ideas! My kids are 6,8 and 9. The 6 year old is scared of the waves. Te older 2 like to boogie board, but only for a limited amount of time. They%26#39;ve never wanted to stay at the neach the whole day. They enjoy the pool more.
Tide pooling sounds like something they would all enjoy. Do you know if we can do that at a beach in Coronado? Maybe we could do the tide pooling, walk around town and grab lunch for a day.
Location of the Sheraton is great - walking distance to the Gaslamp Qtr. My next task is to look into restaurants there. Do an activity during the day and head back to the hotel in the afternoon and walk to dinner. I%26#39;ve read that the hotel is on a very steep hill. I%26#39;m hoping the hill won%26#39;t deter us from walking from the hotel though. We%26#39;re in pretty good shape and the kids will like the challenge.
I%26#39;m so excited for our trip in August. The We%26#39;re staying in AZ this summer. We plan to see the Grand Canyon and San Diego while we%26#39;re out west. Thank you for all the info.
Oops. I just realized that I%26#39;m using 2 ids. I have an ID set up on each of my 2 computers. Sorry for the confusion. We%26#39;re the same person though :)
No tide pooling that I know at Coronado.
A short car ride from downtown is the Cabrillo National Monument where you can get great views and then below it is a great spot for tide pooling.
20min north is the area of La Jolla cove where you will find a series of small rock enclosed (cove ) beaches with a grassy park. One of the beaches has been taekn over by seals so you can watch them. There a rocks to climb on and a little cave to walk through. There is tide pooling there also but check low tide times. The area is one that people visit often and there are tons of restaurants nearby but it is not a traditional wide white sandy beach ,more like the coast of Maine.
Just north of it is the beach at La Jolla SHORES ,which is another wide white sandy beach.
Since you have a car you can explore a bit.
We don%26#39;t usually sit at the beach all day either we tend to walk and explore more.
YOu are not allowed to have 2 separate IDs. You should be able to use one ID on all computers.
The TA forum monitors will notice and erase your posts.
